    D2 spring rates

    Hi All,
I have a set of front springs from a TD5 D2, 7 seater with EAS and ACE.
One has white paint marks, the other red/white marks.

Can anyone tell me what rate they are?

    Thanks in advance.

Are they standard springs? If they are, then the Td5 should be white/purple stripe. V8/TD5 springs are the same rate, the TD5 ones are just 6mm longer.

However being Victorian, they are probably Rangie Spares springs (Les Richmond - White tiger or whatever they're called these days)
White is 275lb/in 430mm free length (for Passenger side)
Red/White is 275lb/in 475mm free length (for Drivers side)
    Cheers

    Thanks Simon,

Do you know the rate of the white/purple stock spring?

Free length is 370/385, they don't look look like a 275lb/in spring to me.

I had assumed they were the standard springs, but you know what they says about assumptions.

I did try and calculate out the rate, and got a stupid big number, I'll go back and and redo the maths.

    Hi Tony,

I'm not sure what the spring rate is for them. I've just had a look in RAVE and can see:

    V8 front springs:
    Pink/Orange, 13.9mm wire, 7.6 coils, 377mm free length

    TD5 front springs:
    White/Purple, 13.9mm wire, 7.6 coils, 383mm free length

Those springs calculate out at about 148lb/in but the rate in reality will be a bit higher due to redundant coils.
    Cheers

My measurements were 14mm wire and 7.5 turns so very close to the stock spring.

I found an online spring calculator that gives 169 lb/in.

I found the formula, ironically in an AULRO post I'd made back in 2022, using that formula I get about 145,000 lb/in.

At some stage I'll get my wife's vastly superior maths on the job, and work out what I'm doing wrong.

You might need to increase the rebound control on your shocks.

Probably do away with them altogether. They won't compress much.
