    TD5 Head

Hi all I need to remove the head on my td5 discovery, so my question is are AMC heads worth the money as they are very expensive or should I just recon my head I have the motor is a 10p motor and if amc are the go where are they cheapest as all I can find start at about $4500 and up.

Most definitely go down the AMC head route. The first time I didn't do this, and the replacement head (with the same inherent faults) ended up cracking as well. After that I ended up doing the AMC head. The AMC head has the problematic areas redeigned so that they don't fail. My experience now says pay once, not twice.

    Oh cheapest...

If you shop local you will end up paying probably at the very least $1k more. Direct is about $2500au + shipping + import tax

Turner engineering will have it at your door in roughly 5 working days out of the UK.

Keep in mind you will also need parts other than the head including Head bolt set, head gasket, tapper cover gaskets, grommets and god knows whatever else. Check your head for the right head thickness which is indicated by the number of punched holes. 10P is early type head.

I had my TD5 15p head welded (crack in injector #1 socket) etc and new valves and all.
Cost around a quarter of an AMC head for the machining and some for the parts.

I was ready to go for the AMC but the shop got it welded and good so I'm happy with the original head.

If You have the money. go for it.
But if You don't have big non repairable issues on the original head, I cannot see the point in getting a new one unles You really want to and have the money.

Thanks all for your input I have decided to fix the old head as it is not cracked just weeping coolant through the rear welch plug the amc head is just too expensive for me at this point in time and secondhand ones are Non excitant.

Hi all just an update after much investigation I have ordered an amc head as by the time the head is removed striped down skimmed then reassembled, I would have spent well over $1000 and have no warranty the head is coming from Turners in the UK the price was about half what I would pay locally.
