I think I misunderstood earlier, I thought you had changed the BCU and it was still behaving the same.
They can definitely fail without ANY water ingression.
I was never thinking to check it for water, my earlier comment was that they can just fail and cause many of the issues above.
I'm not a fan of the parts pistol, rifle, cannon or ICBM. However in this case I'd be changing it, as they can certainly be a problem , and can't really be diagnosed other than replacement.
Also they aren't expensive, or at least shouldn't be.

Is it safe to assume that BCUs are not dependent on Petrol/diesel and manual/auto? What about MY?

All the same but different settings.
So. Plug it in. Spend the rest of the day burrowing around the Nanocom. Program a key and EKA and sync the security code? Oh well , been there done that. And once it is not immobilised figure out what the other problem is. Joy.Originally Posted by shack;[URL="tel:3258055"

To replace the BCU disconnect the battery first then after the swap and battery reconnection turn ignition on and let it so for 5 minutes, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CRANK IT at that stage , after 5 minutes first step is to go with nanocom into Td5 engine - Utility - learn security code, once that's done you can crank it and the engine should start, after that you can go into BCU settings and addapt it to your vehicle's specs.... same procedure must be used if you replace the IDM just that nanocom is not needed for that.( i wasnt very concentrated on all the posts in this topic so if you didnt swap the IDM already to rule it out do that first if you saw water ingress cos as @shack said about the BCU it can fail without visible traces and give similar symptoms like the BCU
Also if you are not too scrupulous about the vehicle's security against thieves and want to simplify things immobiliser wise see this: Recommendation for D2 owners | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum

The IDM is in the fuse box, right? And yes, I will follow those steps in your link. I'm not sure I'd care if somebody stole it at this point. Seriously considering moving back into the D1.

Yes, IDM = fusebox, it's good to know exactly about it's relation with the BCU and related systems and the only certain way to rule it out is by swapping it with a 100% good one, it must be from same modell : facelift or not cos there are some differencies
