Hi all
I have just found AMC TD5 heads on Aliexpress, they look correct, price is just over $1K delivered (these are bare heads) I'm wondering if they are knockoffs or are they legit casting (AMC have to get them somewhere and China would be my bet) could be ones that failed QA?
I've no idea and currently not even in the market for one, just thought I'd post it and see what people think
Link if allowed, if not, just jump on Ali and put in TD5 AMC

The fact that it appears AMC amongst those part numbers doesnt mean it's manufactured by AMC, they line up all those p/n in the title to show the compliance but IMO they are made in a chinese factory cos as you see in it's specification:
Brand Name: RHXFND Origin: Mainland China
Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
I believe that AMC heads are cast in Spain. Doesn’t mean that Ali hasn’t bought a batch though. That’s a part of their business model, like Vevor, although admittedly they usually buy surplus stock from Chinese factories.
Im curious but I’m not going to be a Guinea pig. I simply don’t have the ££!

One thing that looks dodgy to me is the core plug(welch plug) on the exhaust side ... I thought they're supposed to be the screw in type, with hex key?
The images look to be a std press in welch plug.
The injector port sidewall look to have a decent thickness to them tho ... the major worry would be hardness.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Its normal for AMC head to have core plug but I cannot see the AMC cast marking on inlet side which is not the norm
I think price says it all but thats not to say its no good, its a punt

As SF stated, the stated part numbers (both LR and AMC 10p and 15p heads) are for reference only.
It appears the company manufactures them in China, along with replacement heads for Yanmar, Isuzu, Toyota and the Korean brands, they might be fine, but it's an unknown.
You would need a full set of valves as well, but it might be a better bet at this point, to find a decent 2nd hand one and get it tested ( Brinell, pressure and flatness )
The factory heads have a screw in plug in the exhaust side to avoid the likelihood of it coming out due to the potential heat differential on that side
Edit: The usual core plugs are just fillers from the casting process, not anything to do with freezing, even if some refer to them as "freeze plugs"
