thanks for reply, although not sure / familiar with your battery spec / sizes

You say an optima will fit, but thats 254 MM long, yet the info I found on N50 spec is only 230 MM long, but I maybe wrong ?

This is why I asked for a direct measurement of the tray width.

Tha ARB battery tray is $67.20 Aus for the unit available from all ARB stores here in Australia. It is suposed to fit an exide ED4R battery. With a few mods to the clamping end plate I am sure You can fit a larger battery(length),
height will be a limiting factor as the dimensions of the ED4R battery are
    237mm long x 174mm wide x 209mm high and is only a 55 amp battery.
    Hope this helps.
Now how have you got the battery in the last pic secured as this tray is designed for a battery that has a ledge near the bottom to secure it?
I am not in favor of the ED4R and am looking for a alternative.
So what has everyone else used please?
    Cheers

Drill a hole each end and fit strap and tighten.

or go the Exide, same size, half the price

    BTW...

Never fit a Lead Acid Battery to a Disco or Defender TD5...

    You'll boil the buggers!

    Always go Calcium or AGM

We have a local ARB distributor, I would be happy to organise it all for you.
I could order it & then pack it & post it, as I doubt if an ARB store would.
If you would like me to, just send me an email & we can arrange the details.
