Poo poo Derek! Who wants a rangie?...they are common as!:D
hi dm_td5
no such luck as yet with the blonde driver toorak tractor for your td5.
Been looking at this car at a dealer in melb to replace a defender td5. A few reasons for this but largely having trouble justiflying keeping the fender as well as 2 series ones. disco can do the job of family runabout as well.... or so i'm told :)
Car drives well but curious with your signature "broken, fixed and traded". Any info you can share on the car, accessories, problems.
can't promise a life of bitumen for it but would other landies to live with.
thanks
Dane
G'day Dane.
I'm sure Derek will pop in and explain... but this will give you a start:

thanks Mark
Look forward to Derek's comments. The link is fairly self explanatory though.
I did ask the dealer about the shiny transmission and new front shaft ... be interesting to see the response. Bothers me more that this seems to be a relatively common occurence. No dramas on my td5 fender at all in 150,000 k's.
Cheers,
Dane
I've seen the hottie driving around a few times since, most recent was this saturday. A D2a in monte carlo blue with a coded sahara bar is a pretty generic concept, I'd daresay a few are around.
Which yard is Derek's vehicle in?
Considering that the automatic gearbox alone is probably the most expensive component on the entire vehicle to replace, I'd have thought a prospective buyer would be very happy to know that the transmission is new.
So what did the dealer say about the new transmission and shaft?
Dane,
The Disco drives very well. The reason for trading it is that I can't afford to have any problems with a reconditioned gearbox as there is no one who could fix it without me spending a few thousand dollars in freight. Other than that the Disco is fine.
As for the drive shaft failure. I would have been replacing the DC joint with a greaseable one after what happened. Defenders don't have a DC on the drive shafts. In over 5 years there was only two things went wrong with the Disco: DC joint exploded and roof lining collapsed.
Did they mention it has an oversized intercooler and a remapped ECU?
