Hi Nathand
I fitted a cable from If you search for CLD kit or phone them you should be able to see what they have. Their web site is still under construction and is a bit of a dogs breakfast at present but the CLD kit is good.
The kit is rock solid (will out live your D2) reasonably easy to fit and works well. The down side is that there is a T handle sticking up next to the drivers seat that looks just a little odd, pity they could not bring it up under the dash or some such. From memory about $400 which is steep for a cable but there is not a lot of choice as you have seen.
Still finding my way around here and stuffed up the link the site is Les Richmond Automotive
Cheers
I got a genuine shifter off a d2a from AMV for around $400-450. Shop around the various wreckers and I am sure you will find something. You can fit the shifter yourself too with a bit of effort.
Also try 4x4Discovery.com.au - "think outside ..." also. Simon and Michael can source one at a reasonable price.

Check this out, I think this is one of the neatest ways of doing it.

This is the set-up I'm doing on mine Basic CDL, and only cost a few $$'s for the bits.
Can't justify several hundreds of dollars for something else that does the same job!
All the metal work will be wrapped in self amalgamating waterproof tape, and the UJ's will get saturated in an industrial grade grease of some kind (thinking of encasing the whole thing in a plastic sleeve to help with longevity. Not sure yet though).
Have even found a door knob I'm going to use for the "handle" at the local refuse centre which closely matches the new dial-in thingy in the D3's and FL's....bonus!
Have a mate welding it all up for me, and have produced a drawing for manufacturing of the bottom "U' bracket, if anyone should want it....

2000 Disco II Auto V8
has anyone tried the yank bracket under the car, dont really wanna drill a hole in the centre consol would rather just reach under the car
Discoweb.org - they have done the yank handle a few times because they are yanks
Just search on there - they had photos a few years back. They used a good quality socket welded to a shifter rod and from memory cross drilled the shifter and shift rod into the box somehow.
Cheers
