Are you sure off a D3....as D3 dont have a 16 inch rim?? WOuld have to be D1 or D2....though the actual tyre is irrespective,

Hi Folks,
Hope you are well and gearing up for a lovely break over Xmas for those lucky enough to have one :-)
I am looking at some 2nd hand tyres for my D2 that have come off a D3 Discovery - they are 235/85R16 - General Grabber (what ever that means!). My standard tyres at present are:235/75R16....
Was just wondering whether I would need to mod anything? Or whether there would be any problems, such as rubbing on guards, turn circle, fuel consumption reduced, extra noise - anyone heard of the tyres - are they good or crap?
It's very confusing to me to figure out the tyre stuff and I know there have been many posts for individual help...

Gday , a mate at work has the "GENERALS" as we call them and he swears by them as his dailys and for the not so extreme stuff , and a 90,000 km warranty. Im getting some when the Mitchys run out, a nice looking tire too.Tony![]()
All D3 have 17 or 18th.
Tuyres are easy to work out.
235/75/16
The 235 is the width measured in mm.
The 75 is a % of the width---- Hence 75% of 235mm which is the height of the tyre.
The 16 or 17 or 18 or what ever is just the size of the wheel or internal diameter of the tyre.
The tyre rating be it H, R , V or Z represents the speed rating.
I had 235/85's on my Rangie. They are a taller tyre and yes will put your speedo out slightly but give better ground clearance and when deflated in sand a bigger footprint.
I heard they are excellent tyres.

They guys says that they came of his 03 Defender, with tyre side wall impression of :2850503A
Does this help more? I know that the LT stands atleast for light truck...

Pretty sure the 75 and the 85 bit are the height of the side wall of the tyre. (Between the edge edge of the rim and the outer edge of the tyre)
From what Ive read around here, its usually recommended to have a 2 inch lift if you want to fit larger tyres
I stand corrected but Im pretty sure this is right![]()
75/ 85 is the aspect ratio which equates to a % of the tyre width as the tyre height ie if the tyre is 100mm wide a 100/75 tyre will have a 75mm carcass height measured off the rim to top of tread.
235/85 is probably not great for a stoch disco as they will hit the guards during articulation although the width is fine - you really need a 2" plus lift to get the most out of them.

235/85/16 is not a problem for a Disco2. It needs a bullbar to do it and a 2" lift is preferable. There is no guard trimming needed.
