    Plastic Radiator hoses......cracked!!!

Can anyone recomend replacement hoses for the Disco 2 plastic hoses from the top of radiator & intake manifold to the overflow tank?

I have searched and seen a few threads of guys recommending to replace them but they dont say exactly what they replaced them with?

I cracked mine accidently this afternoon but i guess its a good thing as it cracked too easily and would have let me down soon.

I was thinking of replacing them same size heater hose from repco?

Has anyone else replaced these recently?

Also can anyone advise on best place to buy Disco parts in Brisbane or mail order?

Mate - I replaced mine, including the one that runs hot water to the throttle body plate with water heater hose with the same inside diamater...just take a bit of the pipe to your local Repco or similar. The hose you get will have about 4-5mm wall thickness. Its bucket loads better than the standard crap brittle black stuff...cant believe rover used it in the first place (only acceptable as vac hose and even then dodgy).

    Cheers

Thanks Thats exactly what I did today.

I priced OEM plastic hoses at $35 each but i was very reluctant to put them back on so I replaced them both with 8mm heater hose & its a only 10 minute job to replace them.

Im glad that plastic crap has been replaced.

Good stuff mate - the crazy thing is that these rubbish little pipes are likely to fail in the most inconvenient time and cause a stranding...without spare hoses at least. The rubber ones will last 2-3 times longer at least.

    Cheers

i bought some 5/16 brake line for $10 and bent up the section to shape. It will never fail again in the life of the car. I just made the rubber hose to the Tank longer to allow the tank to ne lifted up for bleeding the system.

Is the hose 8mm ID,as i want to get some to keep in the car, with some hose clamps.

If i do replace them before they go,would i have to bleed the systm?,or can you doit quick with hardly any fluid loss, with engine cold.

Hi, very easy job with minimal fluid loss, system should easily bleed back up through the tank but it wouldnt hurt to open the bleed nipple as well. Just becareful to avoid kinks in the new rubber hoses, I routed mine over the top of the fan cowl and drilled a hole in it to secure the pipe with a zip tye.

allways work on the cooling system cold as possible.

Yes it was 8mm heater hose i used. from repco. I think i bought 4 meters and had plenty left over.

It is the bleed return line so there should be no need to loose much coolant or re-bleed.
Make sure it is heater hose not fuel hose as coolant destroys fuel hose(it goes soft and rubbery).I used hydraulic hose, overkill yes,but Im a long way from the shop and we had an off-cut at work that was the correct size/length.
