Firstly, are you sure that you have disengaged diff lock by returning H/L lever to the right? Secondly, try reversing a few metres. Bob H
Hello everybody, new to the site and a 2004 disco the latest addition to the family. Just been playing with the diff lock and light on dash wont go out!
Is this a sticky switch? Is it safe to drive on tarmac with this light on?
Is the diff lock mechanically activated so it can't still be engaged when the shift lever is in normal H?
Thanks, I want to drive it some more but a bit nervous!!

Mine uses a aftermarket kit, but usually it can take a few minutes to disengage. Just drive forward or reverse a bit and it will clear itself.

"technically speaking", yes it would be ok in straight line, BUT its not a good idea really to encourage anyone to use a locked CDL on tarmac.
If the CDL light does not go out, there is a "little" transmission wind up that has occured, as already stated makes sure its disengaged (lever to the right) then reverse the truck maybe 50 - 100 ft or so, then go forwards again and it will most likely go out. Sometimes just selecting between High and Low box will also work to put the light out
And as Pedro said, thel ight is always right, if its ON the CDL is IN
Thanks all, the light is always right! I tried the reversing etc and drove about 30km's to a mates house and had another go. Turns out the rear nut on the CDL cable had come off and the selector couldnt get back into unlock. Jacked up the rear wheel and about 1/2 a turn of wind up came out.
Reset the cable and hey presto, I got the 3 bell warning and then the light went out.
Do you reckon I've done any damage??? Everything seems to be working fine since, no nasty noises from the transmission.
Thanks again for the assistance.
The damage may not be obvious now, later yes. During your 30 km drive, you must have noticed the steering felt different and tyres alternately scraped the road when cornering?
Nothing except the steering was tight when on a hard lock.
I noticed somthing in another thread here about a pin shearing when the system was overloaded and somebody else driving with a CDL on for 1000kms without any serious problems.
I'm taking it back in tommorow so I'll ask what the damage will be in a severe case.
How even are your 4 tyres in size/tyre wear.
It is important on a constant 4x4 that they match.2 news on the back and 2 olds on the front isnt good,it will cause wind up and make unlocking of the CDL harder.
