Red face Another CDL activation Thread...Help..

Gday All,just got under the car to see if my D2(2001) has the CDL as I was told the 2001 model doesnt, im possitive it has but when I move the nut with the 10mm spanner then turn on the ignition there is no light on the dash..The nut (as I will call it) moves 2 ways plus centre, I assume for high/ neutrel/ Low.I can hear the activation in the transfer box when doing it. My question is before i spend the money on the set-up,Does the no dash light mean my car doesnt have it,or do you need to move the car for it to activate.Any help would be great. Thanks
    Cheers Ean

Ean, i have the same setup, albeit a 2000. I only move the nut one way, and this locks the CDL for either high or low. The nut will movein the other direction as youve said but i not aware this will do anything.

If i have 10 mm spanner on the nut, it is more or less pointing to the front of the car. To engage CDL I would turn the spanner towards the drivers side, and you hear the click of engagement. Moving the nut back to original unlocks. Movement back past this towards the passenger side is presumably the excess movement, but not aware that this does anything.

    regards
    Nick

It just means the CDL isn't actually locked despite the nut being rotated. If you move the vehicle a bit it will probably bring the light on. If you have the nut, which it sounds like you do, then you also have the entire CDL mechanism.

Thanks for that,in the manual I have it has a picture of the nut from top view and by feeling the set-up it certainly feels the same as the picture.
    Thanks again,

The 2001 - 2002 Transfer boxes without CDL do not have a shaft to turn. These isn't even a hole in the top of the LT 230 casting.

It is possible that the 4wd engaged switch isn't working correctly, or as mentioned above 4wd is not engaging. Sometimes after engaging you have to drive the car a bit (a hundred meters or so) to get the mechanism to engage.

I assume that the activation light is hooked up at factory assembly, you dont need to connect any plugs etc..I see the manual says that they are not to be driven engaged its only for roll testing..Strange!
I think i'll stick to the marine diesels at work,so much less complicated.I know why im not a car mechanic(my D2 is enough).

Yes, if the CDL is fitted (in your case it seems to be) then the switch and indicator light are hooked up from Factory.

To engage mine its made up from a automatic gear selector cable from a day woo $33 all up works a treat as it can be locked in high and low range .

Sometimes turning the nut with a spanner doesn't always work, in some cases it will take a while for it to engage, turn the nut then take it for a good drive or drive back and forth a few times, on the dirt of coarse, this may engage it, mine wouldn't engage either first time I tried it.
