New Kid On The Block - Just Saying Hi
Hi Team.
Thank for a great forum and some very useful information. I used this forum for months leading up to my purchase of my Series 2 TD5 Auto.
I have found some comments on the forum in ref to fixes for the TD5 so I have modded the injector wiring, oil pump bolt and cardinal uni joints to greaseable units. The support from this forum is great, I just need more hours to be able to search every thread for info.......
I do have one problem, if you could help this would be great. I believe my D2 has a 95 LT tank...yes/no? From full to my orange low fuel light I am only getting 530 to 550 km's around Brisbane, aka street driving and no I do not have a heavy foot. Is this exceptable millage? On the highway I only get 700 to 750 km's. Should there be such a large change in km's from street driving to highway? If I do have a 95lt tank then it would seem that I burn around 17lt's/100km
Once again through this forum I found M.R. Automotive, they had a look at every thing, ECG, code errors ect and could not find any issues. Any help would be appreciated.
What do other D2 TD5 Auto owners get around town street driving? I have read that a d2 TD5 Auto should be getting easy 850km's to a tank.......But people never say if it is street driving or highway.
Thanks again.
Kind Regards
Craig
P.S. should I be posting here or in the Technical section?

Welcome to the forum.
I get around the 11lt/100km out of my 02 TD5 auto. that is mostly highway mileage, but from memory when I lived in the city the fuel economy did not change much from city vs freeway driving, when i fill up I usually put around 85lts in. When towing my 1100kg trailer it goes down to around 14lt /100km. I also have a steel bullbar and winch on the front, and steel rock sliders that have brought the weight up some.
Do you have any extras on the vehicle like bullbar or roof rack, and what size tyres are you running - these will affect your mileage.
Other possibility is a slipping torque converter.

Hi Crash.
Thanks for taking the time to talk. My D2 is standard - stock with no mads except those listed above to prevent engine issues.
It appears that my engine is not economical at the moment...... Frustrating as I so adore my Disco and bought it because I read so many good things about it's fuel consumption.
Cheers

Welcome LDS....
Hi Craig,
Welcome to the forum. Enjoy. It is a brilliant reference point for LR. First thing to so is to get the Rave Cd. Tells you everything.
I have a Td5 and the tank is 95lts. My low fuel light comes on about 680 - 720 k's of city driving. That was before it was chipped.
Now I get to about 650k's. I usually get another 70 k's before you really have the needle on the floor and wondering when is it going to stop. When I fill it takes about 87 - 92 lts.
Your fuel usage does seem excessive. You are unable to adjust it as it is all regulated by ECU.

Hi Grover, No I have not been playing around with the fuel lol, I would not know what to do with the fuel to get more power any way lol.
Feral: Thanks for your fuel usage stats, my fuel light came on this evening and I could only manage to fit 85lts into the tank with 550km's on the odometer. I will take the car back to M.R. Automotive..... do some more fault finding.
If other members of the forum could supply me with there average fuel usage around town then that would be helpful.
Once again thanks guys, at least I now know that my fuel consumption is high and I need to have it inspected further.
Cheers
Craig

Hi Craig - as said by others 17L/100 is well high unless you are towing a 2 tonne trailer up mountain tracks
I've a 130 Defender TD5 which does about 11.5L/100 for normal intermediate driving around town/country, and goes close to 10L/100 for long distance cruising (but I can never quite get down to 10.0, always just above
).
You haven't got big tyres on it by any chance?
Hope you get it sorted - 17L/100 is V8 consumption....
Also - welcome
David

Gday Craig and welcome,I have a td5 manual filled up yesterday and got 740km from I think 85ltrs all city driving. Sounds like you,ve got a leak somewhere..I do know that mine when filling cuts the pump out a fair way before its full but if your putting 80 odd ltrs in then its not that. My roofrack when on makes a bit difference but not that much..
Goodluck finding the cause.
Cheers Ean
