Angry Post water immersion 2001 TD5 Auto woes

Following an unplanned swim in a local creek the gearbox went into limp home mode. After replacing the Electronic Automatic Transmission ECU, flushing the XYZ and gear position switches, cleaning the air flow meter my gearchanges are still having big issues.

Basically the gearbox is not wanting to change up a gear. When accellerating hard (or just pulling away from a stop) the gearbox stays in first gear until I back off on the throttle and then accelerate again to allow it to change to the next gear. It is then ok in 2nd and 3rd but does not like going into 4th.

When on cruise control at 100km/h it hunts between 3rd and 4th (3500 revs to 2500revs) when there is any type of hill.

If I don't ease off on the throttle it does not change gear.

The only thing that I can think of that I have not done yet is change the auto transsmission fluid.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

Finally I am nowhere near civilisation and the local mechanical services are not familiar with Discoveries. (1500km to Perth).

    Your assistance is much appreciated.

    You havent changed the fluid

Thats the most likely thing to kill your transmission - Water in the Fluid!

    Change it now!!!!!

Ring ... "Oil Change Express" .... in Mirrabooka .... As they do a complete OIL FLUSH ..... rather than a fluid change

Basically they hook up a line to the auto and then run the motor & the box, cleaning all the old fluid out while flushing it with new fluid

Drive in / drive out, style service .... They do have a web site

    Good value
