    Discovery TD5 seats

Discovery TD5 five seat. Does anybody know if they came with the mounting points for the third row of seats. Been looking for a 7 seater without much luck.

I am not certain on this, but as far as I know the 7 seater ones were all airsprung, and only the airsprung ones were approved for 7 seats.

If you can find an airsprung 5 seater (dont know if that was ever made?) it may have them, but pretty sure the coil sprung ones won't have.

I assume that you are looking to buy. If you want 7 seats find a 7 seater, it will cost both time and money to modify a 5 – more than the price difference.

The D2 was available (according to the price and option list) as a 5 seat Air Sprung – Standard 5 seater and tick the SLS box, that’s how mine was sold, but I don’t know if there are any around.. Mine was even registered as 5 seat by the dealer and according to the delivery doco LR Aus listed it as 5 Seat with SLS. But there is 7 seats and 7 belts AND the compliance plate states 7 - which is what made it easy to change the rego details at QT. Funny that the dealer didn’t even look in side…

The 7 Seat option included the SLS and a few other bits and was bugger all more $ than the SLS on its own, so there were no 7 seat D2s produced with coil rear suspension, many now have been converted to coil.

To add the extra seats (factory or not) it will need to be engineer inspected and mod plated unless the compliance plate specs 7.

I had almost resigned myself to the fact I would end up with a 5 seater and would have to convert it.

British off-road (Sunshine Coast) would do the factory kit for about $2500, Van Quip had two style $1750 (bench seat) $2600 (bucket seats) and this was complianced. British off-road doesn't blue plate but as it is all factory it should not be a hassle.

Oh, I ended up with a 7 seater, and it was cheaper than nearly all the 5 seats that I was looking at.

My advice would be either keep looking for a 7 seater or fit the factory stuff from Bristish off-road. I am sure TRS or any other Land Rover wrecker would be able to help you.

5 seaters with SLS do exist, i've got one in the garage right now I'm guessing a few people might have ticked the SLS box with the idea of using it just as a tow car, i'm pretty sure thats what mine was originally ordered for... However, i couldn't tell you if it has mounting points for the 3rd row without digging under the trim.

Well I wouldn't want to be your decision maker on this, but having had the rear trim and carpet out a few times (thanks to my fuel pump) I didn't notice anything that looked like mounting points in - or behind - the storage bins where the seats would be...

I've done exactly what you are looking at - I couldnt find a decent 7 seater and purchased an excellent 5 seater.

I purchased a set of third row seats from Bundalene, (for substantally less than British Off Road) which included all interior panels, seatbelts, every screw, nut and bolt (I highly recommend you talk to him). All of the mounting points for the seats exist in the 5 seat Discos.

The only snag I hit was the mounting points for the seat belts are fitted but not tapped (11mm x1.25 from memory), I tapped the 4 holes and fitted the entire set of seats in a Saturday morning.

My Disco does not has air suspension, but has HD coils fitted - previous owner upgraded as they used to tow horse floats. I have had no issues with rear end sag etc - although the kids dont weight that much!

Its not hard to do the conversion.

    Regards,
    Andrew

Is the car now registered as a 7 seater? If it is not, you are not covered legally to carry 7 people, that’s why it still needs to be blue plated. The original compliance plate and a blue plate (if present) is what the CTP insurers will be covering in the event it one day goes wrong.

Great to see you found the right car, may it give you a long and hassle free life.

On the blue plate you need it when changing seating configuration either way ie 5 to 7 or 7 to 5.

British off road or van quip might help source an engineer.
