    TD5 Airbox Mod

I removed the hiclone like device from my airbox on the weekend.
I left the tube ( hump as some call it ) in place but removed the internal lip to open it up a little.

Ever since i bought the car twelve months ago i have noticed engine harshness at around 2200 rpm in any gear. Now that i have done this airbox mod the harshness is much reduced.

There is also an improvement in performance.Engine feels to have a bit more go.

    Cheers Garry

I had this done about 2yrs ago, mine had the hump removed as well, trouble with this mod is you loose bottom end power and if you have a manual and tow a heavy camper or van, it is not a good mod to do.

I had a new airbox fitted and the modded one went onto another customers auto TD5, Bruce Davis did mine.

Actually I didn't lose performance, only bottom end torque, I found that I had to rev the car more and drag the clutch to get off the mark, especially with the camper on, my mod was done with a larger chip installed, the biggest one Bruce does, above 2000rpm it had loads of torque (and smoke too) just nothing under 2000rpm, mine will pull from 1500rpm now, I also got rid of the bigger chip for the milder one, not as much power but a lot less smoke.

Correct me if im wrong, but if your truck has been "tuned" with a new chip and it smokes, then the Tune is not very good tbh. Its perfectly feasable to tune a TD5 up to 200Hp (with bigger intercooler) and no smoke..........its just has to be remapped by somone who knows what they are doing.
