I havent heard that before Lawrence - I use a standard small truck size lead acid Exide Extreme. One lasted me 2 years and this one has lasted me about the same time.
Cheers
PS. True though that the original calcium sealed battery lasted longer...

Only just managed to get back to this post today, work's been a tad manic so little time for browsing. :(
Thanks for all the suggestions. I did as you recommended Pedro and cleaned all earthing straps/contacts as well as the neg batt terminal and lead. As a result she fired right up and hasn't missed a beat since, though I will probably make this a regular part of my maintenance activity from now on.
In response to your post tempestv8, I replaced the old battery with a small truck type lead acid jobbie from repco (Champion or Excide...something along those lines) same as ozscott...I am thinking about an Optima or something similar though just to be sure. Especially onsidering my better half whoo drives it during the week doesn't end up stranded somewhere, for me to then receive one of "those" calls! :no2:
