bad earth prehaps triggered by water getting in somewhere
Hi folks, I've had somewhat of a problem with my 02TD5. It all started one very wet day when I went for a long play in the mud we did a couple of hundred k's up a mountain track and back again. Had a ball, got as muddy as hell and the Disco didn't miss a beat............. untill the next morning when at 6.00am the alarm went off much to the disdain of the neighbours. I shut it off and went back to bed, however when I later tried starting the thing it all went pair shaped, it wouldn't start, then it locked me out, when I did eventually get it going the M+S lights were flashing and the central locking/alarm wasn't working properly. The next morning when I drove to work, when I turned the headlights on the M+S lights stopped flashing but it still wouldn't lock properly and the indicators wouldn't work. After about another day the keyless locking started working properly but if it rained it all went back to square one. Turning the headlights seemed to fix the M+S problem and the indicators only stop in heavy rain. However now the odometer flashes constantly.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Usually the odometer flashes if the body control module and the instrument cluster don't agree with each other.

Seriously,
With my limited experience on these cars, it's sounds like water in the electrics somewhere.
Any electrical issues I have had, which have been flashing trailer light, or indicators intermittantly working has come from the fuse box under the bonnet.
There are two fuse boxes one underneath dash and one under the bonnet. As said with my limited experience, maybe water in the fuse box under the bonnet? Not knowing how hard you went when 4WDing.
Happy for the pro's here to make a suggestion.
Cheers

Hey this may have occured because of water, but i don't believe it is the sole reason.
My odometer flashes constantly now too. It occured in conjunction with my regulator failing and having to drive the truck home on a discharging battery. At 15-20k's out from home i had not 3 amigos, but the 3 amigos, their brothers, sisters, friends aunties cousin, and everything else lit up as well. No gearbox change (auto) and who know's what else not working, i think it is officially called 'limp mode'.![]()
My mechanic had it fixed in a jiffy, but when it came to the flashing odometer he said that even a nanocom (sp?) would not reset it, and only a dealer could plug in and rectify.
Nick.
Hey guys,
The "Limp Mode" for the auto tranny could be caused by either a bad earth connection as suggested or as I experienced last week end a crank battery that is on the way out. If the battery voltage drops below 12.1V (I think off memory) it send the 3 Amigo's and their extended family into a gun toting frenzy as well as the auto into "Limp Mode" where the tranny is locked into 3rd gear for safety reasons. My battery cranked over OK but when I took a look at the sides of the battery they were convexing out more that a pregnant women.which usually indicates a stuffed battery.
Installed a new battery and once again it's siesta time on my dash and I am a happy little vegemite.
Hope this helps.

Had the same problem in heavy rain after the windscreen was changed. Turns out the fitter had not fitted the rubber triangles at the bottom of the windscreen & water was filling up the plenum between the engine & the windscreen. I can only assume that the water was finding its way through one of the grommets & onto the BCM. As soon as I silly coned the triangles back, the problem cured itself & I do not get wet feet inside either anymore. My ODO is still flashing however.
