    Front drive shaft/Hookes joint

I have been reading threads about the front driveshaft and the non-greasable uni's in the Hookes (double cardan) joint. Several people suggest that the aircon dripping on the joint make the possibility it will seize much higher. I duly went under the car and the hookes joint is under the aircon drain so stuck pipes in both to divert the drips. This was only a problem because the hookes joint is connected in my car (as in other threads I have read) to the front diff. However looking in Rave the hookes joint should be on the Transfer box "The front propeller shaft consists of a tube with a universal joint and a sliding spline joint at the front end, and a Hookes joint at the rear end. The universal joint is bolted to the pinion flange of the front axle differential. The Hookes joint is bolted to the front output shaft of the transfer box."

So who swapped our propshafts around? It must have been done to several people judging by the comments in the threads - and is it this swap that has done for the joint? My question is to those who have had problems with the hookes joint - was it attached to the transfer box or the diff?

I voted but have not had any issues, however the previous owner installed greaseable unis with the DC at the back (tranny end).

    Red face

The DC is definitely meant to be at the transfer case end, and not near the front diff.

Whoever put it back together must really be a bit under whelming as a mechanic.

As said, the double cardin joint should be on the transfer end. What surprises me though, is that the DC joint was able to be bolted to the diff as the bolt pattern is different.

    Hi all,
The DC is connected to transfer case end. I have just removed mine and had it rebuilt with 3 new greaseable uni's, it cost $316 in Melb, I will add photo's to an earlier thread to show what was wrong with one of the uni's in the DC.
    Cheers Matt

I agree with all of you - transfer box is the right way - but why do so many people seem to have it the other way round? I am inferring this from all the people commenting in threads that the aircon drain drips onto the DC - if connected to the transfer case then the aircon drip cannot affect the DC surely?
