Mate, relax, you have bought a great car,
For starters the dealer is legally bound to fix the problem, take it back to the bloke who tried to repair it and tell him to fix it. Don't worry about the dealer, the car has to be fixed and he knows it. I dont believe about the insurance thing.What ever the repairs you dont have to pay for it and its only up grading bits in your car
Ok, once this head ache is gone you will love it.
Did you buy it for travel (touring)? or more extreme off road driving?. Start planing how and where you are going to enjoy this great rig you have bought.

Thanks mate, i really appreciate that. sometimes you just need to hear some reassuring words. I'm a first time Land Rover owner, and my previous experience with used cars was with ALFA ROMEO (so my memories of warning lights are very EXPENSIVE)

I really just want it as a daily driver from Mon-Sat (literally to and from work in SA suburbs 10kms) and drive up to the family property in Monarto on Sunday once a month or so, and even there, its not exactly off-roading, just more unsealed and bumpy roads roads and then a few dips and peaks on the property, but NOTHING that you would call heavy 4WD work. I mean an XTRAIL would have done what I need, but I just fell in love with the DISCO 2! And believe me, I am trying to retain my love, but I just am not mechanically minded at all, and all this stuff goes right over my head! Plus there's not much in the way of Land Rover service in SA, and we all know what dealers are like...

Anyway, back to the drawing board I guess. But thanks again for the reassuring words Baffle.

I drove around with the Amigoes on for about a year and a half, they didn't really bother me as I did have some abs and traction control function. It was only when I wanted Traction control to work for me offroad that I fixed the problem. I must be one of the luckiest people with this problem, as all it took to fix mine was to clear the fault codes, that was it. However better not speak too soon, you never know with the amigoes. I agree with Baffle, let the dealer fix it, he has to. And if your warranty runs out and the lights come back, find someone on this forum in your area with a nanocom. They have a map somewhere on here, where people with nanocoms are located. I'm sure they will be more than happy to help you.

I had the same problem, it was traced back to a set of non standard brake pads somehow affecting a sensor, replaced the pads with some OE ones and never had the problem again.

You have a great car, the worrying path you have begun is that you will gradually form an unnatural bond with it which will eventually consume you. Just look at us lot here on AULRO.

You didnt mention if you took out a warranty with the dealer. Even so, you are within your rights to get the car fixed and paid for by the dealer. To put your mind at ease why not browse the "Office of Fair Trading" in NSW, Motor vehicles - NSW Office of Fair Trading or contact them directly on 13 32 20.

The repairer in SA is also under obligation to fix the car and since the "3 Amigos" have many sources, the shuttle valve being only one, it would appear that in the end their diagnosis was wrong or something else is contributing. IMHO they have not finished the job.

My first "3 Amigos" were fixed by bleading the brakes and clearing the fault codes, cost about $120, second time (18 months later) by squeeking brakes, we checked and cleared the fault codes (no charge) which showed erratic signals from wheel speed sensors and now 3 months later still no faults.

Some of the guys here have details of an exchange system for the ABS Modulator (another cause of fault codes) in the UK and for around $700 you can swap this unit entirely (normally $2800 ish from LR).

Once this bug gets ironed out, you can relax and enjoy the vehicle, you have a world marque in your D2. Welcome to the club.

Um it still may be the module.

Shuttle valve switch errors can be caused by brake fluid leaking in the module. Replacing the shuttle valve switch may fix it for a short time until leaking fluid wrecks the replacement.

There is a mob up in Brisbane (MR Automotive) who rebuild the modules for about $1500.

So I took it back to the mob in SA again today, and they ran another diagnostic and the bloke reckons that its DEFINITELY the ABS modulator. Having said that, its also the most expensive part to change, so why wouldnt he say that, its most profitable for him. Not sure if the dealer is gonna cough up for this one tho. I really want an extended warranty for the car now, and I checked in with an old mate at a relatively big Mazda dealership in SA, who normally sorts me out with warranties and he said that Land Rover is one of the very few cars on his un-warranty-able cars. Wonder if I can sort one out from the dealer I bought the car from???
