Thanks for the replies, particularly mark, I wasn't trying to start an argument just can't find a chipped td5 to drive so it's hard to compare. What sort of budget is necessary for the mods you mention and what's the likely power and torque you can expect?
Budget depends very much on which upgrades you choose.
As far as chipping - I am definitely not the expert here... I'd suggest you chat to Tombie on here.
That said depending what you buy and what you choose to do, you should be able to do chip, silicone intercooler hoses and EGR kit for between $1000 - $1300.
Increases of torque and power in the range of 20% I guess are about the average...(Tombie!... feel free to jump in a correct these mate..). mine is around a 20% increase in both.
But more than just numbers I found the vehicle drives far smoother to drive. While it does have more go off the line now than my V8 ever had... because it's got lots of low down torque, you just don't need to rev it to make it go...
One thing to be aware or is that to "chip" a later TD5.. is purely software - different fuel map into the ecu.. for the earlier ones there are changes needed in the ECU I believe.
Again there are many here far more knowledgeable than me on this subject that I am sure will pop along and help....
Where are you located?.... There are lots of chipped TD5's on this forum all around the country.

the only resion i dont have a v8 is cos of stuped P platers killen em selves doing 200 in there 4cly twin turboed sushi boxes:wasntme:,, so now i cant have a rover v8 that will hardly hit 150:mad::mad: an has less power then most new v6s an even 4 pot cars:mad::mad:

This type of question usually brings out personal preferences from those who have one or the other.
All I can say is that having driven both I much prefer the V8 for a variety of reasons which I wont repeat because this has been done to death in other threads. My V8 02 manual has done (I bought it new) 145,000k with no issues at all and I run it on LPG most of the time.

PS. I also have a 95 D1 V8 with 275,000 on it and it goes as hard as smooth as a new one frankly - again never an issue with the motor at all.

On another note, and I mean this with all sincerity, from some of your earlier posts (I was just curious) you have been looking for a LR since 2005 and looked at D1's, D2's, Countys/Defenders and Freelanders. As such you are now possibly the best source of comparisons for the rest of us to learn from. ;)
