BUT I should explain....
My old man (though he's only 52 so not that old) is very sick, and doesn't have much of a stretch left. So we bought him a small property in Monarto SA, where he can go, relax, enjoy the clean fresh air, and just get away from it all.
We bought the D2 cuz it was cheap, looked great, and was highly recommended as the most capable 4WD around... But no one mentioned that there are some serious reliability issues (even though to many of you its nothing that cant be fixed with some time, elbow grease and a few $$$).
He was our problem... time is not something my old man has a lot of.... neither me or my old man have any sort of mechanical sense, or do we wish to spend our final days learning such skills.... and finally, overall cars are supposed to be enjoyed.... (unless its an Alfa-Romeo apparently)
So anyway, here's an update - We just went in to the local Nissan dealer and bought a Brand New Navara D22. I know these have had a few problems of their own, but mostly not until a few years and several kms (which we will not really be raking up as we will probably only do about 8,000-10,000km per year)
Also I explained to the dealer my dad's situation and basically got him to put in writing that if anything should go wrong within the first 3 year warranty period they will provide a 4WD of some sort for the entire time the D22 is being repaired.
Factor in the 50% small business allowance which we qualify for, and the fact that we got the car for $33,000 drive away, and we are THRILLED!
hopefully one day I will re-join the LR owner club, but for now, I just need piece of mind and reliability - I have enough "character" in my life with having Herbie as a car!
Anyway, thanks to all the well-wishers, you are a great bunch of blokes and the camaraderie here is truly a testament to your devotion to your LR's.
In my opinion LR should be ashamed that they have done literally nothing (in fact less than nothing by not ensuring that their dealer provided service system is not a joke) for the die hard LR owners.
I am a lawyer by trade (sorry) and I believe there is sufficient grounds for a class action in regard to 3 Amigos as they effect the ABS system which is an advertised safety aspect of the Disco 2's. Due to the commonality of the problem there is grounds to call for a recall at the very least or an extended time warranty of some sort on the component for a reasonable period (say 10 years or 200,000km - ave km per year for Aust. car).
Someone needs to put LR to question on this, as it is not only poor business, but in fact fraudulent practice as the arguably known fault is creating a great deal of revenue for LR by way of spare parts sales, which in essence are a result of LR poor manufacturing standards.
There is a strong case to be heard, and if you band together the cost of such an action would be minimal compared to the possible reward, especially given how much some are spending on repairs, which often need to be done again and again.
I am happy to do more research on the issue, and although nothing in Law can be guaranteed as a certainty, I would be more than happy to offer my services to test the waters.
In any event, thank you all again for your support, advice and well wishes in all my posts.
Regards
