I read under Technical Chatter and found on the webiste about Diesel Gas which they claim it will improve power and diesel consumption.

If its true maybe its good if you are after less diesel consumption on your TD5.

    1999 Disco

Yes have a BMW version2 TD5 and it is hard on fuel...had a rough life I think, but still get and average of 11's out of it, I use it around town and country. Better on auto pilot on flat ground....best was 9.75. Worst towing a two tonne brick full shifting house...18

It has cost me a fair few bucks, but I do like my Disco... Keep it below 2250Revs and it will treat you right.. Tojos and Padjes are not quite there are they ... lmao...

I was at a servo chatting to another Disco owner who was filling up on gas and was getting 200k off 50 ltst of gas... TD5 is good...would love to up grade but to what at the price and comfort?

I have been keeping a spreadsheet for the last 14 months and my average fuel comsumption is 12.64L per 100 km. My driving is 95% around town. I have a set of drawers with cooking gear and my fridge along with a second battery in the vehicle at all times.

    Vehicle is a 1999 D2 TD5 Auto.

well I guess you cannot get a more accurate reading than the post above. Those figures sound spot on.

On the freeway, I just drove to South West Rocks over the weekend and got 920 ks from tank. Hope it can make it to the local servo

Adelaide to Coober Pedy my (new to me) TD5 got about 8km per litre travelling around 110kph. Then I worked out the cruise control and Coober Pedy to Alice (home)I got 9.6km per litre travelling around 120kph. Seeks OK (especially compared to my RRC) but I would like to know if a chip, or larger intercooler or some other mod would improve consumption?

It is interesting to read everyone's fuel consumption figures particularly Catch-22's with 920kms from a tank. Presumably a 95L tank. Well done! The figures from my last tank with 70% of town driving is only 7.1 kms per litre, or 14.06 L per 100 kms, with no additional weight. Not good! We are about to head off for 3 months through the centre and WA towing the van so I guess I won't be driving past many fuel pumps without stopping! Would love to hear any suggestions.

    Something wrong here !

Got 11's out of SWMBO's D2 TD5 towing a 15' pop top from Benalla to Home, and that was through Melbourne. It was Sunday though.

I reckon a service, by a competant LR mechanic would be a good investment. Either that or remove the lead boot.

Mine is a 99 D2 TD5 auto. Best I've ever had is 10 l/100 km. Worst I've ever had is about 13 l/100 km. I have roof bars on, but they're not too unaerodynamic. Have a snorkel, too, but otherwise stock as a rock.

typical is about 12 l per 100 km, unladen, around town or on the highway.

I've been continuously disappointed with the fuel consumption, especially when
    a) My old 300 tdi did 8.5-9.5 l/100 km all the time and the TD5 is a newer motor and
    b) Other people with TD5s seem to get sub-10 l per 100 km easily - why can't I??
