My long-term average is 11.3l/100km, mostly city driving.
Best economy was 8.55l/100km between Wantirna, Vic and Dubbo, NSW, lightly loaded.
I was very impressed by the 9.6l/100km for Wantirna, Vic to Fraser Is and back (5300km), 2 people, light load.
Those figures aren't adjusted for odometer accuracy, and are mostly before the bullbar was added.

Miles Per Gallon cont.
Folks thanks for your replies to previous issues that have been solved prior to our family trip around Oz. We are now enroute and we have used a couple of tanks of juice from which to ascertain what our fuel bill might be. We will run up around 20,000 kms by the end and would like to try to get my rig running efficiently.
My setup is a 2001 TD5 with an upgraded ECU from Triumph Rover Spares in SA. We are towing a 1.1 tonne wind-up van with a mesh tray on the van and a roof rack on the TD5. This is what I would consider a relatively light towing load.
Can you let us know what your litres per 100 kms are for this type of load as I reckon we are guzzling more than we should - our 2 full tanks of juice so far (94L and 92L) have yielded a return just under 18L per 100 and just over 18L per 100. Speed is 95-100 kmh steady and even. Other information on the forum seems to suggest returns of 13-15 L per 100kms while towing similar loads at similar speeds.
Work performed - I have blocked the EGR valve following advice from the forum and put an injector cleaner through the tank. Tonight I have removed the MAF sensor (which was filthy from EGR return) and cleaned and replaced it. By the way does anyone know how these sensors (MAF) operate? And how, if the sensor is dirty, does this effect the economy as mentioned in many places through the forum? The air and fuel filters have been replaced.
We are in the Flinders Ranges until the weekend when we hit the road again for some more kms.
Cheers All
