Shaft is now at Hardy Spicer. Turns out the centre bearing in my DC joint was a brummy 31.5mm OD ;). No idea how / why, but it meant I couldn't just take the bits and do the job myself.
$300 to replace the three uni's, the ball, machine the yoke to accept a standard 32mm ball, plus balancing. Should get it back on Tuesday.
They also offered the solution of cutting off the current DC joint and fitting the bigger, 1300 DC joint. I think these are the same ones as are available from the states as upgraded shafts? Plus replacing the other uni and balancing the shaft, a little under $900. A little more than I could justify but certainly something to keep in mind for anybody else looking for a bigger DC joint.
New waterpump and hoses are here along with hopefully the right size o-rings to repair the Fuel pressure regulator and replace the seals in the fuel heat exchanger. Just need to track down the intercooler hoses and consumables then it will be a busy day under the bonnet

When phoned them in the morning they were unwilling to quote over the phone which did put me off a bit. But once I got in there with the drive shaft I understand why.
First thing he did was pull out the vernier calipers and figure out what the shaft needed, rather than go to a book and look up what is 'supposed to be' the right parts.
Good thing too when he found the ball in the centre of the DC joint was an odd size. They are machining the yoke to take a standard bearing for me.
Apologies if this has been covered already, I have not had a decent search through the forums as yet.
Once I dropped out the front prop shaft and locked the CDL I immediately got an amber ABS light that never goes out, plus an amber TC light that lights up for the globe check, goes out then comes back on.
Oh, and the Red CDL light.
Initially I thought this was just something wierd to do with the CDL, but I have had one engine start where the ABS and TC lights did not come on.
I haven't been anywhere near brakes or the ABS modulator, and I am not a believer in coincidence.
Is this a "three Amigo's " type fault, but with only two lights ? ;)
I do have the RAVE disk's and I am about to start going through them also. I see a NanoCom in my near future..

Yes I have a D2 TD5 with 240,000 and I am having the same thoughts. I bought it just before christmas last year and since then its had:
-Rear Main seal done twice, the leak has slowed but not stopped so I gave up. That didn't cost me anything because the dealer payed for it.
-Trasfer case back to back seal also done twice, leak has slowed alot but still weeps. Given up on that one. I only had to pay for that once, the second time was warranty.
-Alternator **** itself, $750 to replace (came with a free vacuum pump).
-EGR hose split as a result of the alternator being replaced, it took me ages to work out what it was, I thought it was the exhaust manifold gasket but luckily it wasn't so that was a sigh of relief.
since I bought it I have fitted all the stuff listed in my sig. The car drives really well which is the incentive to hold onto it. Plus its great fun towing landcruisers.

Wow, that's rather expensive!
I go to a truck driveshaft workshop, hand over the stuffed propshaft and pick it up a few days later, all fixed up, balanced, etc.
Cost me around $270 all up, from memory.
But I've spent heaps on my Disco, so it all pales into comparison when I look back at all the work done to it. ;)
