mounting to rear tyre

gday i have a jack adapter i had mounted to my old truck, problem is its a plate that just bolts on top of the rim, and the disco rims the studs dont pertrude past the rim to get a fixing on, anyone had any sucess.

i made up pretty much that unit to fit through my spare wheel on d2, then made a jerry can holder that fitted onto it. will take some pics and post up later on, was retty straight forward construction job.

Guys i have one of these & it works brilliantly.

You can just buy the section that mounts to the inside of your spare wheel & this may be the same size, may want to enquire first.

Hi lift jack mounting for a D2.
The Wheel bracket has to be reinforced as it is prone to cracking.
The bracket mounting seems to be universal.

I've got one the same on the wall in my shed, and the one in the link that you posted works the same Nathand.

The bracket does not bolt to the outside of your wheel rim, but to the spare tyre carrier, as shown in Rudolph's photos. The bracket is in two pieces, you undo the bolt in the centre and separate the two sections of the bracket - the centre "shaft" protrudes out through the centre of your spare rim - then you slide the outer section back over the centre shaft and secure in place with the bolt through the shaft. Outer shaft section has slotted holes so that you can push the jack in tight against your spare tyre before tightening the bolts.

Personally - I don't like them. I'm not a big fan of hanging additional weight on the rear door - puts too much stress on the spare tyre carrier bracket and on the door hinges, especially if you have fitted larger tyres. While I've never seen any problems in this regard with Disco's, I've seen far too many Toyota Troopy's with stuffed door hinges and sagging barn doors because of carrying spare tyres and extras on the back. Most mining companies remove even the original spare wheel and carrier from the back of Troopy's as soon as they buy them for just this reason. Hence why the bracket that I have is mounted on the wall of my shed. The jack goes on the roof racks if I'm going out bush and want to take it with me.
