Sorry to hear about the swim. I did the same (without the water ingress into the engine). See one of my posts.

Auto went into limp home mode and I replaced EAT ECU (from Truimph Rover Spares - paid just over $200 for it) auto was still not right. XYZ switch cleaned out of water to no avail, also looked at O2 sensor which was ok. Had to freight car to Perth from the Pilbara... I removed the trim guards and put tennis balls under the carpet to allow the sound deddening rubber to vent and dry (it was also over 40DegC which helped though).

After 3 weeks in Jordan Rover Tech in Perth it was discovered that the EAT ECU loom was full of water and shorted the replacement ECU. I had all fluids replaced, loom replaced, EAT ECU replaced again and gearbox and diffs filled with Red (anti vibration fluid). Jordan Rover Tech very good if your in WA.

Just checking the date and it's 17 weeks on until I can use her again:D
Going to Romsey for drive train fluid change, timing chain tensioner to go(using old one for now) and it's done.

Main reason for post was to say I washed, yes with water, all the mud out of the Auto Control Unit.
Sprayed 3 or 4 times with contact spray and It's all good,
I moved it under the consle while I had time, gained 75mm in hight;)
Finaly did the door seals too, better late than never:confused:

Mostly an update incase someone looks down the track, I like seeing the outcome.

Good to hear. How did the interior turn out, are the carpets and things still ok?

Basicly new chain and gears, head OK,fitted new lifters as precation and 4 2nd hand rockers as none available. Most of the info on that thread.
Also hoses, viscous bearing ect..

Hendrik, Carpets are good, glad to do them first as motor wasn't going to get worse but they would.
Speakers OK also, so I have only washed with water the door trims. Need to wash them with somthing(saw a thread, must search), no stains though.
Should have washed seat frames as noticed I fitted without cleaning inside of them.

Driving it as of last Sunday (17 weeks to the day).

Change you're geabox oil 10,000 times is all i can say, i changed mine only once (im hendriks mate who drowned my d1 tdi) Everything else was fine... accept only changing the auto oil once still stuffed the gearbox....

Yep very good idea, the water most likely got into the tiny valve channels in the auto, and the water stays in there and can be very difficult to get out. You will go throught a lot of auto oil, change it very regularly as water will still keep coming out. Or as Shamo found out, you will have to do a gearbox swap...not fun.
