TD5 Engine mounts

Mine also has a harmonic type drone at 2300 RPM approx,doesnt matter what speed or gear you are in,got to be engine related.You can drive past it & it is smooth again.

MR changed the engine mounts around a year ago,& also had the ECU BD chipped.I recon it has done it since then,but hard for me to know as i have a company car & dont drive the D2 very often.

There was also a post on this site somewhere that someone found there was more of a drone with new engine mounts than the old ones.He put the old ones back in & the drone was gone.Maybe some of the new mounts are faulty.

Anyway,drove mine today,the drone is definitely there ,but not worth worrying about.

It may even be a characteristic of the TD5...,i am pretty sure the last one i had also had a drone or a type of roughness at around the same revs.

You sound like you have the same symtoms as me..Mine was very rough at idle to the point it seemed as tho the car was idling to slow.The simple way to check is to get someone to sit in the car whilst it idles you get under the car with the jack under the sump and jack it up very slowly,you will only need to raise it 20mm and if the viabration stops then its the mounts.

I wanted to revive this thread. I have a definite vibration at 2300 rpm. Its gone 100 rpm either side of it. Is engine mounts the common consensus for the solution?

not in mine it didn't fix it. in fact, seems to have made it worse.
going back to changing the wiring harness again. and maybe the AFM

Well, I can gaurantee its not drive shaft / UJs. Just replaced that after my front UJ went from squeal, to disintegration in 20km.

Bent the shaft. New OEM fitted, vibration at 2300 still there.

I had not noticed until reading this thread then going for a drive and holding the car between 2200-2300 rpm now I notice the rough feeling at those revs!:mad:

driving day to day thats what i do, and its not an issue.
however towing the caravan, at90 kph which is where the whole setup cruises the best, its right in the noisey spot :(
just did 5 hours 2 days ago, wife was working on her laptop so not radio allowed, just the sounds of the engine vibrating away to listen to on the trip. :mad:

To me this sounds like it is more of a problem in the auto's than the manuals. I have driven an auto one before that had an unbearable drone at 2200-2300rpm..hence another reason why I'm not a fan of auto d2's. Both my engine mounts need doing, but I only have a slight drone at 3500rpm, which does not worry me at all since I don't rev the engine that high anyway there's no need to.

Personally, I don't think changing the MAF will do anything, the harness maybe but that is more power related. I would look at the problem as gearbox related, especially if new mounts don't solve the issue.

yeah, actually, might be time to check the harness again, its been about 6 months. might do that while i got the old girl in bits in the next few weeks.
