Makes some horrible noises coming into Walkaway, and really hard to change from 2nd to third, and cant back off the accel in third. We had to make a very difficult decision, do we stay in the Horror of Geraldton to get it fixed, possibly being stuck for a week, or push on to the seaside resort of Kalbarri. 3 seconds later - Kalbarri it is.
We made it - easily, once up to highway speed and through 3rd - gearbox performs like a legend.
Take it into the RAC guy in Kalbarri, who diagnose the prob as possibly thrust bearing, once he takes off the bell housing and gets drenched by about 1/2 litre of oil - Gearbox it is.
Anyways, long story short, 9 days and 4.2K later - thanks to Mike from Kalbarri Auto, the guys from British parts for getting the gearbox, (came with new bell-housing and transfer box), new clutch, freight etc, we were on the way to finish the Holiday. New Gearbox = tougher truck, off to meet up with the in laws in Karijini, and show the Father in Law once again what a mistake he made in Buying his Patrol.
