Blown Gearbox D2 - Recon Advice

Can anyone provide some advice on the best place to take the TD5 Manual Gearbox to for a quote on recon in Perth - need to get it recon'd and sold to repay the inlaws for the loan.

Day 2 of a 35 day excursion north as far as Exmouth, across to Tom Price, Karijini, Newman and back to Perth - GEARBOX gives up the ghost.

Makes some horrible noises coming into Walkaway, and really hard to change from 2nd to third, and cant back off the accel in third. We had to make a very difficult decision, do we stay in the Horror of Geraldton to get it fixed, possibly being stuck for a week, or push on to the seaside resort of Kalbarri. 3 seconds later - Kalbarri it is.

We made it - easily, once up to highway speed and through 3rd - gearbox performs like a legend.

Take it into the RAC guy in Kalbarri, who diagnose the prob as possibly thrust bearing, once he takes off the bell housing and gets drenched by about 1/2 litre of oil - Gearbox it is.

Anyways, long story short, 9 days and 4.2K later - thanks to Mike from Kalbarri Auto, the guys from British parts for getting the gearbox, (came with new bell-housing and transfer box), new clutch, freight etc, we were on the way to finish the Holiday. New Gearbox = tougher truck, off to meet up with the in laws in Karijini, and show the Father in Law once again what a mistake he made in Buying his Patrol.

    Cheers

Hmm, may be a long shot but call Barbagellos & see who they use for their own repairs.

Awards are good but they're in Sydney (although they seem to do gearboxes from all over the place).

The original gearbox was replaced with a new one.
He now wants to have the original reconditioned.

Richard Kei4 knows a guy who re-builds automatic gear boxes, give him a call 0408019568 or email but he is away on FIFO at the moment. SO maybe have to wait a week for an answer

Oh ... I read it as ... "gotta sell the Disco" ...

Mr D ... Ring up the British supplier that you got the box from ... They know a mechanic ...
