Fire extinguisher

Its not a bad reach to the passengers side footwell in a D1 or D2,,:eek:

best to have it within reach, better to have a slight inconvenience than the major inconvenience of being trapped in your burning car and the fire extinguisher is in the back.....

I've got a 2kg dry powder extinguisher bolted to the floor in front of my passenger seat, theres enough give in the seatbelt that i can reach over, unclip it and grab it even if i cant get the sealtbelt undone

slightly different considering i only have a falcon, but thats what you should be aiming for

Thats what I think too.
Same as having a glass hammer/seat belt cutter on the cargo barrier,
hard to reach if (God forbid) upside down from front seat.

I used threaded inserts that work a bit like a pop rivet, so no need to remove the trim. The 1kg extinguisher is well clear of the glass and hasn't moved.
Plan to mount the second extinguisher on the front of the passenger seat base one day.

thats what Ive been looking at doing as when you take it off.. if you do
...its doesn't leave a hole but a nice threaded rivet

where do you get them and how do you install them

they're called Rivnuts, Blknight has a how-to thread on here somewhere for people who dont have a proper rivnut setter

the glass hammer on the cargo barriers is more intended to allow people to break out of the rear of the vehicle if they get trapped behind the cargo barrier..... damned if i know why, its illegal to have a cargo barrier in place and carry people in the 3rd row seats

I bought a "Thread-sert" kit and extra "Brute rivet-nuts" in the USA a few years back but I expect you can get the same or similar from Blackwoods or a similiar nut/bolt/engineering supply company.

Really easy to fit - drill the required hole size, put an allen key head bolt through the required size hex mandrel, screw the insert onto the bolt below the mandrel, push the insert into the hole and tighten the bolt to expand the insert in the hole.

Don't know if you have room on the seatbox in the D2 ...

there's also one mounted on the passengers side in my D1, easy to grab as you bail out.

yep, they both get rotated in the bracket before every trip so the powder doesn't pack down.

something i should point out with vehicles is that its best to have a fire extinguisher with a hose, a simple nozzle doesnt cut it (and on heavy vehicles i believe its mandatory to have a extinguisher with a hose)

picture it, engine bay fire, you pull the bonnet catch, poke the hose through the gap at the front/side and dump the extinguisher into the egine bay, problem fixed....

with only a nozzle, you cant do that without lifting the bonnet, and thats a potentially FATAL mistake, the increased oxygen entering the engine bay will cause the fire to grow MUCH bigger VERY fast
