Hey Disco EMU,
You wont know its been done unless you get it checked by your mechanic, or unless the previous owner can tell you he/she had it checked.
If you end up getting you car you want, then when it gets serviced, the mechanic can check it when he drops the oil out of the engine. The sump has to come off to get it checked, so this is a good time to do it.
And get your car serviced by a reputable LR mechanic, this is the key to longevity.
For $20k you should be able to pick up something later thab an 01 model for sure.
So how many kilometers is too many? Should I even consider a TD5 disco with 200000 kms on the clock?
What are the big service numbers, at what kms do major things need to be replaced or go bang!
Personally I would go lower km and later ( upgraded headlights = D2a )
but it depends on your budget
There was a thread recently re hi km TD5s and they seem durable.....if if looked after, not overheated, serviced well etc etc
rather a few more kms and good service history rather than the other way around!
On Carpoint recently there seemed to be a few options I thought?
cheers
Nobby
In terms of service intervals and costs, here's what i was told over the phone from Graeme Coopers.
Service Intervals - Mainly 10,000kms.
100,000km = major service, roughly $850-$900
110,000km = intermediate service, roughly $550
120,000km = major
130,000km = intermediate etc.
I think I understood him correctly.
Les Richmond Automotive in Thomastown, VIC told me:
Every 10k like you said.
90k is a little - oil change, oil & air filters 2.1hrs labour
100k is a medium - oil change, both oil filter and spinner, air and fuel filters. 3.4 hours
110k is a little. 2.1 hours
120k is a major - all fluids recommended, including anti-freeze, diffs, transfers, auto or manual box, transfer, power steering, brakes. LR I think recommend adjusting steering box, ACE filter if fitted. 4.5 hours.
130k is a little.
140k medium
150k little
160k major, repeat etc
Cheers,
Matthew
So I've narrowed it down to a couple on the market ....
an early Manual with REALLY low kms
or
an auto 2003 with 150000kms
About the same price.
Is there a good reason to go manual over Auto ... or the other way around?
Would there be an advantage to buying the younger car but with nearly twice the K's?
and should I get the car checked by GC's at St Peters or Peter Davis? What do they charge for that sort of thing?
Thanks guys ... all this info is brilliant!!!!!
