Unleaded Fuel mixed with Diesel whats the Outcome?

Although I haven't done it (yet), I can see how easy it would be if you weren't quite on the ball. I usually use the same servo to fill up depending on the price cycle, but occasionally use another one close by. Just recently one of the servo's changed the colour of their handles and I almost caught myself out due to force of habit. After reaching for the 'regular' coloured handle that both servo's used, I noticed the nozzle looked different and quickly realised it was premium unleaded instead. Wouldn't have been hard to goof that up.

Check with your insurance company, as i have seen in the past that they do pay for miss fueling, but you need to ask.

Miss fueling was comom when passager cars started to use diesel fuel as out of habit the owners put petrol in.

I suggest to drain the tank and refill, the lubricity of the diesel is now much lower due to the petrol mix and will cause long term damge to injectors and pump. :(

That is why I posted to add 4 litres of engine oil to the tank, to add some lubricity. Diesel engines will run quite handily on anything that will burn that you can get into the cylinders including coal dust and corn starch. Distillate is a light oil with additives such as butane for startability and rust inhibitors. So if you fill with gasoline just add a reasonable amount of clean oil to lube the injection system.

Yes you could grab the wrong handle / nozzle and fill with the incorrect fuel, but that is operator error, not a misfuel caused by someone previously hanging the handle / nozzle in the incorrect spot.
Each pump is triggered by both the handle being lifted off the bowser and the trigger on the handle being squeezed. If you only do one of those things no fuel will be pumped.
Therefore if you have the diesel handle hanging on the unleaded bowser spot (and vice versa) there will be no fuel flow as both requirements are not being met.

Distillate (Diesel) dose not contain butane for startability, cetane improver is sometimes used for cleaner / better combustability, very comom in Europe due to there higher cetane number requirements than Australia.

Butane is added to Gasoil (Petrol) in winter which helps startability ect. and than lowered or taken out completely in summer depending on the location in Australia.

Keep topping up the tank with diesel. Should fit 93 litres all up.

No - I must have been tired from the long drive to Coolalinga and so made the mistake :angel: :angel: :angel:

I only added 21 litres to a 130 litre tank so took the risk to drive it home and dump it before refilling with the correct fuel for the engine type that I have in the vehicle :D
