Still waiting for a reply about Muddies for 18's - - :)
Thank's Mate :)
Are they easy to get - - or do you have to order them in and wait for supply ?
Cheers ,
Hi have a simular problem Nice 18" alloys with low profile road tires ( came with it when I bought it). on a 2002 Discovery TD5 Was going to ask is there a tyre available for the 18" rim that will suit mild off road use?
Or do I just get a set of 16" with off road tyres for when I want to play??
Andrew
Andrew,
I too have the 18" rims on my discovery.
There are only two tyres that I have found with an all-terrain tread, they are the General Tyre - Grabber AT2 and the Nitto - Terragrapler. These both come in 255/55/18 as on my disco, you can get the Grabber AT2 in Australia, however I am unsure of the Nitto tyres.
Both of these tryes meet the load and speed ratings required for a Discovery and the price for the Grabber AT2 in 255/55/18 is $340 each from Les Richmond Automotive plus freight to wherever you live. In my instance it is $239.80 for five tyres to Brisbane.
I have been trying to find a supplier in Qld, but have had no luck so far.
I have been tossing up the idea of getting 16" rims, however $340 per tyre for the Grabber AT2 is cheaper than a BF Goodrich MT or similar in a 255/70/16 which is closest match for the discovery.
I will probably still get a set of 16" x 8" rims, but put a set of 32" or 33" muds for when I go to Cruiser Park on weekends to run a muck.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris Temmerman
Thanks Chris they look more like it, will definatly investigate, I was quoted a simular price for road tyres. They would have to be better than whats on the vehicle at the moment, great on the bitumin but almost no grip off road.
Andrew
reviving a thread here but im cotemplating getting 16'' rims but reading this the 18s with the grabbers look good as i will only use it for the camping trip every few months.
i want to do more research on how much for a 245/75 on a 16 and could you go a 255/60 on the 18 to give it more beef in the sidewall
i have the perreli ATR on it now and they are nice on and off except the harder stuff but if i installed the CDL i reckon it would help more also
