Talking I Have a New Brain

    In the Disco I mean

Saturday we installed a new flashable ECU, replacing the old non-flashable B Davis chipped ECU, the difference was amazing considering this new ECU only has the standard map in it at the moment.

Now from what my tiny brain has absorbed over the few years we have had this early D2 TD5 manual, the newer D2a update TD5 manual has 10% more power and torque, going from 90Kw and 300Nm to 101Kw and 340Nm all due to a change in the mapping of the ECU and a larger intercooler EGR system.

So I'm assuming that the change of ECUs has made the difference to my early D2, seeing as I have a larger intercooler.

It is so much more drivable, I have my soft throttle back in low range, high range is much more responsive and even though I'm down on power over the old chipped ECU I don't care, it's just so lovely to drive now.

    Tombie re-map coming up

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

Non-flashable manuals had 101kw & 300nm the same as the flashable ones, as it was only the autos that got upgraded to 340nm. However the mapping was obviously changed a lot even with the same max power and torque, improving the driveability quite substantially. Defenders only came out with 90kw and without a boost modulator.

Not according to the specs B Davis quoted me, he was positive the early D2 manual had only 90Kw like the Defender and the auto was 101Kw.

I will check as I'm sure it is in the spec section of the manual.

Regardless it still drives a lot better

All D2's came with 101kw. Without checking I thought it was only the D2 auto upgrades that got extra torque.......

Thats really interesting re the differences in the performances though Baz. I've probably got the same ECU from DPL that you've removed. hmmmm.
    Cheers

I'm positive Bruce said the manual had the same Kw as the Defender, maybe I misunderstood.

I was amazed at the very little difference in power as well, I mean it is notcable on steep hills and the test was Wollongong to home on saturday, Mt Ously was 4th all the way up AND with the old chipped ECU 4th as well, the difference was I could not increase my speed as much with the new ECU standard mapping, this morning coming to work, not much difference really, just a little less power in the low rev ranges.

I think there would be a big difference with the camper on, I think that it would struggle.

That I don't know, as well as alot more I don't know too, going on the responces above

Another thing that hadn't changed much is the EGTs, can't see a whole lot of difference in temps over the old ECU, I'll check a lot more this afternoon on the way home.
