May just need a clean what you really need to do is plug in a nanocom and see if it is reading air flow on idle and at speed at the usual values. From what I have read on this forum non-genuine part can be a bit hit and miss
Hi all,
I thought i would disconnect my MAF sensor to see if my TD5 Disco would run any differently.
I definately had more power with the sensor disconnected.
My question is does this necessarily mean that my MAF sensor is faulty?
Also are the aftermarket ( non-genuine ) MAF sensors any good?
Thanks Garry.

I agree try cleaning it with contact cleaner first, if know better replace with Land Rover Part. Also something I did with my TD5 was cleaned the MAP with contact cleaner. The power increase was very noticable
i have the same thing,,, so iv just left mine unpluged![]()
the td5 dosnt have a MAP sensor, it has a MAF manifold air pressure and a AAP sensor ambient air pressure.
ive tried a cheap MAF recently it did give me better ecomony but the gear changes (auto) were holding for too long when pushing it, if you drove it like a granny then you wouldnt know the differance.
you can import a genuine MAF from the UK for not much more than what the cheap one costs.

well ill be buggered! didnt even know it was there
looks like ive got another thing to clean/fix/replace in my never ending search for decent fuel economy.
this site has slightly confused me...everyone says to unplug the MAF to test...no one has ever (till this post) mentioned unplugging the MAP???
cheers phil
the maf is usually the first one to go wooky (its the one on the airbox side of business) and loosing it results in the ECU working at a predetermained value so its not critical.
the MAP can be done without but you loose a bucket of power as the computer limits the fuel to prevent stupid levels of boost turning up. IT usually doesnt just let go and progressively gets worse. If you have the EGR still on board it gets gummed up even faster.
