The sensor is on the bottom of the fuel filter (located behind the R/H rear wheel) I suggest you remove the wiring plug from the sensor ( push the metal clip in) & check that theres no water or dust in the connection & if thats ok undo the sensor & drain some fuel out of the filter & see if theres any water in it.

The light is a waste of time.
They dont work,mine flickers on right hand bends at a certain level in the tank,2/3rds from memory.
As far as I know it was deleted on the D2a's.

My 04 D2a has the sensor attached to the fuel filter ... but the cable ain't nowhere to be seen (well, it is tucked up high and pushed forward where you can't easily see it).

Obviously, disconnected and relevant computer told to disable that system.

I took your advice this afternoon and followed the above instructions. Didn't seem to be water in there as best as I could tell but I cleaned the connections on the sensor so we will see how it goes.

I think these indicators are a good idea. Where our daughter lives in the tropics, and filling up from 44's quite often, they have to drain the filter far more often than we do. The trick is to ignore the light if it flicks on occasionally but act if it stays on for any length of time.

I retrofitted one to out 06 Defender and this occasionally flashes on - tells us it is still working.

Tells us it's still working - I like that explanation.

On ours,(2001) we find the light will come on more often when we buy fuel from one particular service station. And also as we get nearer to an oil change. Though I never find any moisture in it when I inspect it.

Change the fuel filter. I drained mine --no water tospeak of--changed filter and cleaned elec connections wd40 and lanoguard all ok since
