Diesel in the oil

I have had the same thing the last few weeks.

There was a crack in the head at No.3 injector (easy to see with the injector removed). Replaced the injector seals anyway and did an oil change as I couldn't afford a head so decided to drive home and park it up. 100miles later, diesel back in, level up.

Head changed last week, new injector seals etc, guess what, 100m later diesel in the sump.

It's booked in for "another look" on Tuesday. Either they have damaged a seal when fitting, or the new head is cracked...

Hey, guess what? Mechanic phoned today to say a cracked head at the gallery where the No.3 injector goes in.
I suggested he check the head the first time around, and it wasn't done. He only sent the injectors away for a rebuild and cold-tested the fuel pressure regulator.
For the record, the telling sign was a sudden, noticeable loss of power up hills, with the engine struggling to get above 4000rpm. Ran fine on the flat, although acceleration was a bit sluggish. The effect was something akin to someone suddenly putting a two-tonne load on the back.
Oh, and the mechanic has gone on holidays until the end of the month, and left a note for his secretary to phone us with the news. Not happy at all.
Wondered why SWMBO sat me down with a glass of whiskey straight after dinner ...

Can someone clarify the overhaul of the TD5 EUI please.

When I did the head on my D2 I was advised by LR and the Diesel mob in town that these could not be overhauled and replacement was the only option.

Is there now an option for overhaul?
Or were Sanbar's just tested and not o/hauled?

Mine are all OK but just curious.

Injectors from our rail that failed the pressure test were replaced.

I have the same issue in a TD5 Defender 2000 model. I was initially drawn to the noisy fuel pump making a whirring sound and took it in for a look. They said the fuel pump will scream if air is getting in somewhere along the line. The oil sump was supposed to have 7ltrs and it had 12ltrs so well up the dip stick. $1k of investigating later, replaced the o ring seals on the injectors and looked at the head which presented no cracks and the compression test came back fine. Drove it 500kms and told to look at the dipstick, if up by 1 inch then problem still there. The fuel pump was quieter after the investigations but is now back to being noisy again. With no cracked head (or found), new o ring seals on injectors, what else could cause diesel to enter the engine?
BTW - first Land Rover and loving it but concerned I may have a serious problem

Our mechanic has sourced an after-market head from Germany that has thicker walls around where the injectors are fitted. Anyone know anything about these?
Irony is that I sat beside a guy on a plane yesterday whose company casts heads for older vehicles, and he was quite interested in what happened to my TD5. I might courier the cracked head to him ...

I'd reckon quite a few TD5 owners would like to hear about the replacement heads.

Picked up the Disco yesterday. Mechanic admitted a mia culpa in missing the cracked head and has only charged us for the replacement head and no labour.
I'll take pix of the replacement head this weekend when I get a chance and post them here.
