Heading out to look at some Disco's

New kid in the market for a D2 and heading out in the balmy 45 degree heat tomorrow to check out some rigs....here's a couple I'm going to have a gander at.

    2001 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY TD5 II 01MY Cars For Sale in SA - carsales.com.au - carsales.com.au

2002 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY S II 02MY Private Cars For Sale in SA - carsales.com.au

2002 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SE II 02MY Private Cars For Sale in SA - carsales.com.au

2002 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SE II 02MY Private Cars For Sale in SA - carsales.com.au

    2001 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY TD5 II 01MY Cars For Sale in SA - carsales.com.au - carsales.com.au

I've read a few threads here mentioning buying a D2....anything I need to look out for in particular, questions I should be asking, things to look for, how many beers should I consume on a 42 degree day.....that sort of stuff.

    Cheers

    Dave

I like the 1st and the Last on your list, Black would be hot in 42deg but dam they look nice, both those have a center diff the 02 ones wont have a center diff unless modified by previous owners, mine hasnt but that will change soon.
My wife would kill for a Black D2. I cant really comment on too much apart from service history, that is what I was told.

    Hi,
Going by what I have read on here, a couple of important things to look for is a service history that can be verified and it seems that the Auto Transmission is the best one, suppose to get the same economy as the manual on the Hwy etc.
Mine is the same as number 5.

    Great vehicles to drive.
Hope you pick the right one.

If you are a member of a road service group you could get it checked over by them too. ( for a few bob)

    cheers

    I like the 2nd one.
    White is my favourite colour.

Take a look under seat covers too, should be perfect.

I like leather in them as they are easy to maintain.

Happy shopping and remember to have it checked out by a landy mechanic.

Aside from the lack of CDL (which may be important ti consider depending on your driving habits) my bet is on the grey one ending up being the pick of the bunch. Good price and low kms for starters...

Thanks for the input folks....torn between two of them at the moment.

The second one (white)....owned by a mechanic at a 4x4 shop and he's looked after it...not done any serious 4wd'ing...a trip to Alice and a few weekenders away. Auto has a lot more pull from a standstill than the manual and it is in good nick. The Coopers are near new, Duel battery setup and full roofrack.

The fourth one is in excellent nick...owned by a vet and never been offroad, Still stock and perfect service history....but manual. Still...the price and km's are good and it gives me a bit of room to play in the budget and buy an ARB bar, duel battery setup and still have some extra cash to put towards a new set of rims and tyres.

    Urggghhhh...choices.

    The white one.

the roof rack is worth around $1000 and the dual battery another $700 give or take. Its a bit more expensive but those extras are significant additions you will want anyway. Also, most of the others look like they're running the original Michelin XPC tyres (from the spare I can see) and are up for new tyres which will set you back around $1200.

    good luck

Nothing wrong with XPC's, and they wouldn't be the originals when you consider the mileage. Then again I don't want to start yet another debate on tyre preferences hey! Im just not a fan of Coopers that's all...

Yeah the dual battery setup is a selling point at face value... the roofrack ain't the greatest, much better with a contoured TJM alloy rack imho.

It seems to me that the white one might have seen a bit of work, whereas the grey one is just itching to get a little dirty for the first time.

Then again do you really want a manual??

Sounds like service history is good on both though. Either way be wise - get a fully independent inspection by someone who knows Landies.

Take a deep breath and get it fully tested.
You know that both will have a few issues, they always come up with something but make a informed decision.
Drive both and make a choice from that.

Leave some $$ for lift kit(50mm), speaker-radio upgrade, radiator-cooling system flush and fuel money as you will just love it.
