Like Slunnie says, a little too much for that vehicle.

Ride quality suffers with dodgy shocks, unusual for 116k but could've seen some hard use.

Personally I'd prefer non ACE and no SLS, but thats my opinion. Definately corners well with ACE and the self levelling rear suspension is useful if towing.

16" rims would be fine with 235/85/16 (31.5") and a 30mm suspension lift.

2003 update (D2a with CDL) in a Td5 auto would be my pick.

Autos last if serviced regularly and kept cool, even with a big ECU chip and driven reasonably hard.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

What Slunnie means,My03 vehicles, last of the D2's,& the best of them, were fitted withCDL & lever in vehicle by factory.'99 till around 01 had it in the T/C,but lever not fitted. In between years,01 & 02 APPROXIMATELY,didn't have the shaft sticking out of the T/C,so aftermarket kit was very difficult to fit.

I would have the auto anyday......had 3 D2's,should know by now

    Never had an auto problem,ever.

I would rather pick up a 7 seater than mess around fitting extra seats to a 5

seater. All 7 seaters came with SLS.
I wouldnt have ACE,more to go wrong, with not much gain

Good service records are really important on a 2nd hand TD5.

16" rims would be my choice, with a set of BFG A/t's or ATR pirreli,245/70/16

    Just my 2cents worth....

I've an '00 D2, 7 seater, SLS and Auto. I was after a manual, but this came up at the right price.Very happy with the characteristics. Pleasantly surprised with the amount of engine braking in Low 1&2. It'll have you staining the belts down hill in 1st.
I'm not a 'leave it in'D' all the time' sorta bloke, and I use the box like a semi-auto.

The ZF in the D2 is good. Instead of slipping the torque converter like a normal auto, it locks up to give maximum engine braking. I've found before that in terrain where you actually do need to use engine braking (as opposed to just using it to save the brakes) like slippery clay that low 1st in the auto is heaps and heaps and still has enough to be sliding all 4 wheels

What does ACE stand for? and when or if it goes wrong how do you fix it.

Wouldn't a 30mm lift make the roll worse?

I was considering replacing the shocks with OME sport shocks and their medium weight springs, should I go the heavy springs to stop the roll. or is it the stabiliser bar that needs beefing up.

I think the one I drove was a dud.

I am thinking about getting one from the Auction (Done it 3 times now) but can you recommend a landie mechanic in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane who would be able to chech them out for me? No dramas in traveling to pick it up.

This is another reason for the Manual as I can replace a clutch myself or even rebuild a manual but I can't reco an Auto.

Lastly are the leather seats like the HSE softer then the fabric ones kids thought they were a bit firm.

    Cheers

ACE stands for Active Cornering Enhancement.
and it does what it says on the lid.

Only people that dont have ACE put **** on it.
EVERYONE that has ACE loves it.

ACE is by far the most reliable system in a D2.
ACE gives you better front articulation than standard.

If you buy a 7 seater you will not need heavier springs.

You are the second newbie to post about ZF's lasting only 120,000 kays,,
who is telling you or where are you reading this ****???

    Auction?
all bets are off,, Good Luck!

    Thanks Pedro

Auction isn't Scary just need to know what you are looking at. this time I don't so I need to find someone who does.

Is the anyone around Port Macquarie or Coffs Harbour that has a 7 seater with ACE that would be able to take me for a drive to show me what they can do?

    Cheers

A panel beater mate who is looking into getting a TD5 as well. Don't know who told him.

Is the stamped service history enough to go on for an AUTO or should I only go by retained receipts?

There's a reason you get things at auctions so cheap. It's because they're someone elses crap, either private or government but 95% of the time, someone elses crap. For this reason issues like auto's dying early. etc...
