    Confused about D2 CDL

    Hi All,

I did a search of CDL threads but still confused about which year D2 had CDL fitted as standard if any (not just spigot on top of transfer case that you can activate with spanner or with 1 kit). Can anyone clarify which year D2 has CDL fitted as standard & how is this activated from cabin i.e. electronically or mechanically as in D1.

    Cheers..B

It was reintroduced in 2003 with many other improvments including high blinker lights on the back and the new twin round lights on the front.

I don't know how it worked except that the high low lever was pushed across to the right to activate it.

Before 2002 had the spigot but no lever.

2002 had no lever or spigot on the V8 Auto models, not too sure about the TD5 though from 2002.

2003 had CDL reinstalled and activated with in car lever. Transfer case lever can be pushed left to right as well as from high to low.

The D2a or update model, the 1 with the new style lights..2003 onwards, it is cable activated..
The kit you buy from Ashcrofts is the d2a cable activater that fits the earlier models...

    Hi Pedro,

I did look in the 'Good Oil' but could only find the year introduced in UK.
What I wanted is which MY2003 -MY2004 in Australia had remote CDL fitted as standard & exactly how you activate this from cabin (mechanical or electrical).
I am currently looking to sell my 2000 TD5 & purchase either 2003 or 2004 TD5 with low Ks or 2005 D3 TDV6 if I can convince SWMBO that I need to spend nearly twice the price to get a vehicle just one year newer & probably full of bugs as first cab off the rank.
    Cheers..B

    This from TGO,,

"You need to check the build date, not rego date on LR.

the D2 was released in England in late 1998, when it came to Australia it was released in 1999.

The Vin number is the only way to get model changes correct.

(eg) for CDL in or not.

If you have the diff lock stud on your unit you will only require the linkage parts, to determine this you will need to find the transfer case serial number and check it starts with either 41D or 42D.

If it starts with 61D, 62D, 69D or 70D then you will need the diff lock parts to go in the transfer case.

This is strange i know, but it's the way it is here, my D2 has a build date of august 2000, but was released as a 2001 model buy LR.

The model change is mid year, june/july/august approx"

When we bought our MY2003 the dealer said that it was new with the cdl reinstalled with this latest model. Is this what you mean.

If so we found that it was bug free from what we had heard. In saying this we did get a dud with a crook computer but all the dealers and owners around us said it was a good truck. It is still a series 2 with just more features as standard.
