Must say I havent ever heard of anyone spearing the radiator from under there, but theres always a first!
IMHO, I wouldnt worry about it, its just going to mess with crush cans, airflow etc...
You're more likely to cop a rock through the grill on fast dirt.
I'll try and post a pic tomorrow... I have an ARB non winch bar and was looking for a way to maximise the airflow through the radiator instead of being flowed through the path of least resitance..... through the grill and then downwards under the vehicle as well as a bit of protection.
Thought about a solid plate but realised a possible issue - any crap (sand n mud etc) coming throught the grill would have no place to go but into the radiator, so came up with a compromise.
I had some 4mm cotton fused rubber sheeting so cut this to size and put some large holes in it from a door handle drill bit and fixed it from the bootom of the bar and over the protection/nudge bar.

How's this for a useless post!
I can't take pics ços the car is beng used elswhere...and it is 9 years ago that I fabricated a shield and I would need to look to see exactly how I fixed it.
When I fitted the (alloy) bull bar I also saw the chance of bouncing rocks hitting the radiator core from underneath.. so I made/welded a shield.
Basically a wire perimeter frame (with fixing tabs) and some lightweight mesh welded to it...all curved to fit the profile.
Gives full air-flow and you can see through it to check for eg grass build- up/radiator blockage etc
The wire frame was about 6mm??.( whatever I had at the time)
Mesh could be expanded type ..or for zero air restriction ..a 10mm square wire mesh brazed to the frame.
The complete unit is bolted up for easy service removal if needed and light enough to collapse in an impact etc.
Really,it's nothing more sophisticated than a wire sieve.
