    ACE retro fit

    Hi all

I am stugling to find a D2 Td5 7 seater with ACE but I have found some components on ebay and about the place. Is it possible to retro fit from new and second hand parts?

    Cheers

Probably. The hydraulics must be kept absolutely 100% and totally clean though.

Bundalene on here dismantles D2's so it would be interesting to hear what his thoughts are.
    Cheers

I've seen someone sell the complete system before. I think it will be a bit fiddly to fit, the pipes especially. You will need a different fan belt to drive the ace pump as well as a different power steering reservior. The wiring for it is already there, I had a look under mine the other day and saw the wiring for the accelerometer thing attached to the sill. I would be interested to see how you go, keep us posted.

Personally I wouldn't do it. I purchased my 2000 TD5 deliberately without ACE or SLS, as I found the handling only marginally improved & you have all that extra to maintain & potentially go wrong. If you want better handling than standard fit some aftermarket suspension. Do a search on ACE issues in this forum.

I have been contemplating whether it would be possible to put the OME airbags in the rear of my coil D2 without much drama.

i was sure that most 7 seat discos were standard with ACE. All that i have looked have ACE. If they are selling on carsales or the like they may not have been given the option to list it or the owner simply doesnt know. You would need to check it out first that it doesnt have the ace because all I have seen do.

Personally i wouldnt retrofit ACE as there is so much componentry etc & will not be a easy job.

    Hi Bruiser
I think you will find the ACE system is about the least troublesome of any on the D2,a good indicator is the lack of posts asking how to fix ACE problems.
Where the ACE really comes into its own is when 2" lifts and taller tyres are fitted.
Mine still handles like its on rails despite having 235/85 tyres and +2" springs.Brilliant system!!!

Absolutely, you virtually never hear of ACE problems anywhere.

It's an awesome system and I wouldn't go without it personally. Most that have it say the same. Stunning handling, flat cornering and a heap of additional articulation when offroad. This said, if you drive like a granny and seldom go offroad then you probably wont need it as it is a onroad and offroad performance option.

I have a 7 seat disco, without ACE. AFAIK it became an option on the update model like mine.

That said, when we purchased the car, I asked the dealer about it, he stated that it was a waste of time.

I have not had any experience with ACE, so will be following this thread with interest.
