    Detroit locker with TC?

My D2 has TC but I want to fit a Detroit locker in the rear. Do I need to disable TC?

No. TC will act when it detects a wheel spinning fast than the rest. With a locker on, both wheels will be spinning at the same speed so the TC will simply do nothing.

    be warned...

while you can do it you might get some funny reactions if the CDL is open the detroit is working in the rear and the TC activates on the front axle.

This isnt a scare you off thing its a fair warning thing.

From what I have heard it feels like the steering wheel kicks ala series in low range on road style when you're cornering.

Agreed, not really "ideal" without a CDL.

A CDL should be the FIRST thing you do before any axle lockers.

    Hi Riceburner,

Have you considered a TrueTrac instead of the Detriot. Works nicely with Traction Control, and cheaper to purchase than a detroit.

If you do a search here you will turn up quite a bit of info on TrueTracs and Traction Control.

    Noooooooooooooo...

bad bad things can happen when you try to corner on a firmish surface with the CDL engaged.

you should only ever put one true track in a vehicle and a selectable locker or rely on the TC in the other. (I suggest putting it in the rear)

you can go dual lockers in both sides tho.

you can also have traditional limited slip style diffs just not a torque biasing diff like the TT.

Sorry - do not understand that - what causes what - and how does it do it.

Certainly, in my 101 you would never know the detroit was there but it does not have traction control - however I had to drive my Freelander without the rear driveshafts connected so only had front wheel drive and while the torque of the diesel easily spun the front wheels so traction control kicked in and transferred drive to the other wheel there was no issue with the steering - noting the the TC control at the rears was effectively disabled with no drive to them.
