Thread: Gah! It's the Disco Sags!! (from the SLS bags!)

    Just got my new bags today from Rovacraft. They're Britpart bags & have the same look & feel as the originals, unlike the arnotts. They both have contitech rubber but a different feel.
    Question about the fitting, like a few posts before, they recommend cutting the line. So, is that it, cut the line & push the line in the bag?? How does it stay there? The arnotts you unscrew & screw the new one in. I just feel nervous cutting the lines without knowing how it works

    The push in fitting have a circular drectional type collar which locks on to the outside of the tube providing retention. Imagine hose barb or fitting on your garden hose. An o-ring then nprovides the sealing.

    The screw in fittings have a brass collar known as an olive which is compressed onto the tube by the threaded nut to provide retention and again an o-ring for sealing.

    The push in fittings recommend the trimming of the tube to remove the distorted part of the tube caused by the original compression of the olive. This then gives a smooth round area for the retention collar to lock onto and the o-ring to seal against.
    Trim only what is needed.

    So if it's all done right, once I push it through, I shouldn't be able to pull it back out? Does it matter if the bag is inflated or deflated?

    I had to cut mine too, just clean the end to be inserted and snip with the kitchen scissors (!!) just behind the ridge that seals when the nut tightens. I just shoved mine in and gave it a yank. felt firm so I left it at that. I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong here) that if you push the silver socket in while pulling the air line out it will probably release it. I felt a bit apprehensive about the whole push-in connection.. but it seems to be sweet.

    Correct! To get it out again you have to push the outer collar to release. These push in fittings are everywhere in processing, and manufacturing equipment. They are very reliable and obviously quick!!


    Edit: I mean no insult but thought I had better say, that if you pull it out with the bag inflated it will go down.

    I dont have an outer collar release (i dont think) it looks the same as the Arnotts screw in type. Heres a pic.

    Ok if the picture is what you have, then you seem to have screw in fittings. "Did these say they were push in"
    If they arent - dont cut you tube.
    Leave the small plastic plug in (so you dont lose the olive ) and unscrew and you will see the olive. Push the tube in and make sure the olive is over the tube and not sideways etc. It should sit about 5 to 10mm from the end. Tighten (not wrenched) leak test and you are away.

    Well that's what I thought, I have done this about 6 times before because the arnotts kept on leaking.
    Now my instructions say to cut the line, this is why I have been so apprehensive to cut the line. It looks no different to the other fittings. I would have thought it would have been a different fitting. They even have paint on the fitting so for warranty purposes they know if they have been unscrewed.
    "the air connector in this part is a sealed unit & has been extensively leak tested. Removing or loosening the connector for any reason will destroy the integrity of the seal & the part will no longer be guaranteed against pressure loss or failure. Bla bla bla..
    Anyone got a pic of their push in type?

    Push in fittings are round and have no flats to fit a spanner on. The silver bit is the push collar and nd th brass bit is screwed into the top, sealed and marked not to remove. etc. Hope this helps. I am 99.99% sure you have screw in fittings.

    It looks like a push-in fitting to me. Looking inside the fitting you can see a seal rather than a nut and olive arrangement........I think
