BTW, where is ZF in Sydney?
As said in a much earlier post my D2 auto was playing up. All sorted now by getting an exchange box from ZF in Sydney. Was heaps cheaper than getting the local guys to rebuild my box. I did however get the local auto-transmission guys to do the swap over. When I picked it up the shift was very stiff and I could not get it manually into 1st. Took it back for him to have a look at and he told me it was the cable that was on the way out and I needed to get a new one. He did a pull on the plastic cover under the gear knob and a brief point at the cable to say it was no good. I could not quite see what he was talking about but hay he is the expert, isn't he????
I have driven it around, as is, for a few months now and have searched the web pages to see if I could get a cheep new cable with no luck. Finally phoned the nearest dealer 100km away and they had one from the UK and delivered to my door in about 8 days, awsome!
Now for the rub; having forked out over $100 to get the new cable it started to look like a bit of a big job to change so in short found that the only thing needing some attention was the cable retaining hanger on the Box. Undid the bolts holding it to the box a little and angled it a little better and the cable is now running good as new, 5 min work a whole lot better that 1/2 day. Obviously the cable was put on just too much of an angle. Any one interested in a new Cable?
Part of me was thinking how come it goes in perfect and comes out stiff, has to be the way he has reassembled things but then I wondered if he had damaged the cable getting the box out. He was obviously spouting a lot of crock & wanted to shift the blame onto it being worn? You'd think an old fart like me would not have fallen for that one, still I feel OK as I'm way ahead of getting him to do the rebuild too.
