Clunky rear door and other questions

    G'day,

New owner of a '02 Series II Disco and lovin it....a couple of questions from a new kid though.

A/ The rear door is making some laboured clunking noises, nothing looks out of place. Any recco's on the lubrication of the slide? What to use etc

B/ I plan on doing a routine oil & filter change shortly. I purchased 10 litres of Penrite HPR Diesel 5 SAE 5W-40 which hopefully will do the job nicely...any tips I should know regarding the job?

C/ Coolant....last owner said he used Castrol Long Life but the coolant in the system is red....I wasn't aware that Castrol made a red coolant?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Dave

Firstly, welcome to the fold, and ANOTHER South Aussie too...

A/ Cant help you with this one, but someone will be along shortly to give some tips.

B/ Penrite HPR will be fine. But don't forget to replace BOTH oil filters.. (Yes, the disco has 2 engine filters)

C/ The Disco uses OAT coolant. Best thing is if you are not sure what is in there, do a complete drain, flush & refill.

D/ Visit the shop section on the top of the page, and get yourself a RAVE CD. It is the best purchase you will make for your Disco, and the profits go towards running this site.

E/ Check out "The Good Oil" section. The information in there is invaluable, and will answer most of your questions, even some you don't have yet.

F/ Before someone else tells you, the rules of this place are "it didn't happen without the pictures". Post up some pics of your new baby for all to share.

G/ Welcome & enjoy your stay with us. Please remember that your nearest exit may be behind you....

    A. Buy a Dri Lube stick & use it on the slides & strikers of all the doors.

    Nice one...thanks fella's

I'll grab some dry lube this morning....I'm a complete NooB when it comes to working on vehicles but I've purchased the Rave CD of this site and a hard copy of the workshop manual also....still I'm bound to stuff something up.

I presume it's bad to get the red Nulon and dump it in on whatever is already there.....how easy is draining the coolant for a mechanical dunce

Give your spare a good shake. Check the wheel nuts mounting the spare are on properly, often tyre people are very rough and cross thread these. (as well as stuffing your locknuts and tool) Ensure these are ok before you head out anywhere. Also check the bolts holding the spare tyre carrier onto the door.
    Cheers.

Thanks strangy...I'll check all that tonight....I did take the spare off on the weekend to try out a deflator and new compressor I grabbed at the camping show last week....I'll re-check the fastenings to make sure everything is sweet.

2002 Series II Disco....chipped up, Piranha dual battery system, drawers, roof rack, waterproof seat covers, 3 inch exhaust.

    To get list:
Bull bar - haven't decided between TJM & ARB as yet
    Some lightforce lights
    UHF
    Side Steps
    2" lift
Fridge....dunno what to get here...more research needed
Might cut the rack back to a touring rack so I can get a rooftop tent....keeping the basket at the front.
    Side awning

Nice vehicle.... Drop me a line and we can discuss some potential ideas
