Now its getting toward bedtime on a Thursday night so how does one respond? Is it
A - Check the compliance plate to make sure it was plated in the year 2000, check under the bonnet to make sure it has a Td5 motor, and check the gear selector next to the driver's seat to make sure it is an auto.
OR
B - Do a search on the forum for known issues with the Td5 and D2 auto's.
OR maybe even
C - as Pedro says, as well as the usual mechanical things you would check with a vehicle of that age and most importantly drive it to see if it stuffs with your hands as that may be the biggest show stopper (or prospective buyer pleaser) of all.
Then again - it could be. Ah forget it I'm going to bed.
Cheers, Dale

check both fobs work,,
have a quick squizz underneath,,
should be only one leak, at the power steer pump,,
(the patented LR anti rust device)
check the rear donuts for cracks,
check the front drive shaft for shiney bits,
check the sump plug bolt is done up,,
check for oil in the harness,
plug a nanocomm in and check what faults appear,
(this one is semi serious)
purposly hit a pothole or two and see what lights up,,
take note of any brake squeal, at LOW/stop speed,,
is the front drinks tray broken?
seats should still be FIRM,
there still doesnt appear to be any rust problems in the D2.
drivers manual?
log book?
receipts?
standard TD5 auto will be a bit "disappointing" to drive

Unplug it from the ECU. look inside for oil.
See if it's had the oil pump bolt loctited. Or you will need to look into getting this done.
Leaking fuel block?
Should have the CDL internals, but check anyway.
Have the turbo hoses been replaced? they can delaminate on the inside .
Shuttle valve errors can mean you might be looking at an ABS modulator rebuild not too far away. (~$1400)

Having recently purchased a 2000 model. My 2 cents worth is to see what invoices they can dig out for you. That way you can see what they had done and when. For instance when were the discs and pads done, has the harness been replaced, abs shuttle valves etc. I found it very helpful when purchasing mine to discount some of those problems and to really understand the history of the car not just that it has had oil changes although very important. If they are unable to find them have a look at who serviced it and ring them up as they can go through their records.
