A few more pics
Here are some pics of our latest arrival - a late 2a Dormobile.
She is very straight, with little rust, original 6 pot engine, capstan winch, overdrive and most of the usual Dormobile features.
Original Dormobile rear seats have been replaced with a bench seat, but it can be laid out flat and I think we can make it work as a sleeping platform. The demountable table is also missing.
The roof tent, fold-out bunks covers have been replaced at some stage, and she has been resprayed - good job overall but some body rust starting to show in the usual places.
Brakes have been redone, new waterpump and carb rebuild in last couple of years. She runs and pulls well, and sounds fantastic under a bit of load.
Engine wise a bit of tappet noise but no smoke. Engine bay needs a good clean and a few minor leaks to deal with.
She has spent most of the last decade in storage, but fully registered now. I will need to put her over the pits to transfer to Tas reg in a couple of months, so working through all checklists to get things shipshape.
Last few weekends we have been cleaning and checking things over - all new oils, filters, fanbelt, coolant flush, new shocks, etc. Looking for some tyres now, and new hold-downs for the lift-up roof.
Our kids love it (they came up with the name), and excited about going away camping in their next holidays - doesn't get any better.
Cheers
Roger
A few more pics
Hi Roger,
Thanks for the additional pics, its a great interior.
I wish mine was complete like yours, other than the roof, mine has been stripped out so I'm looking for everything to rebuild a Dormobile interior.
So if anyone out there has some interior items I'd be glad to talk to you.
Kind Regards
Bill
Hi Bill
Lots of useful fitout info on websites like this one Dormobile features
Apparently fitout varied a lot - the factory built them to order and fittings used changed over time. Lots for the enthusiasts to argue about!
I think yours is the rarer 3-door, '2 berth' model. Roof and upper bunks may be same as mine but original cabin fitout likely very different. I think there are some pics on the site listed above. Will keep my eye out for bits.
If you find a parts donor, I'd be interested in the rear seats and table, which won't fit in yours.
Cheers

Hi Roger,
I've been wondering about your new toy, I thought you might have been disappointed with it, but I can now see that instead you've been busy
I wonder what happened to the original rear seats I purchased a new table and fittings for mine, maybe I could get a copy of it made for you. I can certainly get a price if you like. Or I can send you some detailed pics.
Hi Bill,
I've possibly got a kitchen / sink unit that I might part with, it wouldn't have the stove in it though. The wardrobe unit isn't too difficult to construct yourself, I made mine and made modifications to suit. I have measurements if you need them. I'm now making the "Mk2 Model"
A couple of pics
Hi jeeryd - good to hear from you
Yes - only get a couple of hours spare each week and have spent all of that checking things out so she runs safe and smooth, and then getting it clean.
I have only got around to taking photos this weekend.
I have 3 kids so the rear bench suits me fine for now, though I want to revisit seatbelt arrangements.
Your table looks good - is it a new Dormobile item or home made? I like the idea of it but can't see how people get in or out of their seats when it's in place. Do you have any pics or tips for how to make it work?
Also keen to hear fom anyone who can tell me how to load bigger pictures to my posts on this forum - the thumbnail attachments are a bit clunky
Thanks

Hi Jerryd
I have sent you a pm with my contact details.
I'd be interested in the kitchen unit and wardrobe plans.
Kind regards
Bill
Roger,
Thanks for the website, I've checked it out a few times and continue to trawl through the Internet to research dormobiles to try and locate missing bits but I think it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Kind regards
Bill
Greetings from Alaska.
Can you tell me how the winch is powered? I have a 63 series 2a109 with a pto winch and would like to have an overdrive as well.
The previous owner changed to an ashcroft high ratio transfer case and 1st gear is to high to suite me. I would like to change back to a standard case and add the over drive but then I loose the winch(I think)
Thank you
Regards
Jim
G'day Jim,
A capstan winch on the front of the car is driven by a shaft attached to the crankshaft; so you can run an overdrive as well.
The snag is finding a capstan winch with all of its parts,
Cheers Charlie
