Nanocom

The current model Nanocom can be operated "stand-alone" but is easier to use when connected to a laptop by a USB cable. This is particularly useful when changing BCU settings and the like.

For general fault code reading and resetting the stand-alone Nanocom is quite adequate.

Maybe.......It will depend on you mechanic.
Diagnostic tool will direct you to the component associated with the fault, this may or may not be the exact problem. Nanocom will stand alone or link to any computer with the software provided. Any competent mech or savvy DIYer will have no problem using a Nanocom.

Engine not firing with the TD5..... some things to check first.
1/ Can you hear the fuel pump running? If not, this is the likely culprit.
2/ Check for oil in the ECU harness. (easy to spot in the red plug at the ECU, beside the Jack and battery) Contact cleaner will be a temporary fix. Though there would have to be heaps to actually stop it dead.
3/ Crank Position Sensor (CPS) If you have had a fuel regulator leaking or rough mechanics during a clutch/ gearbox replacement the wires can become brittle and break, or the sensor may have been damaged.

These are the three main reasons for a TD5 to misbehave

What are the symptoms before and after? Is your ECU standard?

the ecu is the original for the 2000 build with an update on the mapping done about 8 months ago. the onlt faults have been a blocked fuel filter 6-8 weeks ago and leakind fuel return lines [ replaced last wed] since then the fuel pump has been changed and a replacement crank sensor tomorrow. if no luck i may have to send it to darwin as there is little interest here in landies

This is the reason I have bought the Nanocom for myself, their must be 30+ D2's getting round Hedland and none of the mechanics are keen on working on them. I even tried sending the missus in to a mechanics the other week to get a fuel leak repaired and the Mechanic told her he wouldn't touch it. They charge $130/hr here, I would work on anything for that money lol! (Ended up needing a new fuel reg, and I have used superglue on my fuel return lines a couple of times when they had rub thrus.)

i have a nanocom coming up tomorrow with the crank sensor but was told to also check the wiring harness that runs near the turbo. if no luck then a tow to the truck yard is the only way out of town at least my wife has landed a temp job and i have an interview next week fingers crossed thanks for the ideas

Who did the ECU?

Hope the Nanocom sorts your issues.
If you need a stock ECU to test your vehicle,I have one to suit a 1999 TD5 Manual D2.
You will need your Nanocom to code it to suit your D2 injector codes and security settings.
Its only an offer of a loan,its not for sale.Will only suit a manual not auto.
I WILL NEED THE ECU RETURNED,it travels with my D2 for emergency roadside repairs.
Can send up via Express Post if need be.

thanks for the offer Andrew but if things dont work today the disco gets loaded onto a truck and sent to Darwin I am not able to keep it in the garage much longer trying to find a cure and ordering parts every few days. Also i have some employment prospects which will require that i have some timeframe on mobility again.

Just a remote guess - but can you hear the pump running when you turn on the ignition? If not reset the inertia switch mounted in the engine bay - its on the passenger side firewall.

Maybe there is another blockage in the fuel system - possibly in the fuel pressure regulator?

hanks all for the tips and suggestions but time and space constraints meant getting it out of the garage and off to Darwin where a mechanic is set to sort things. even with a nano in hand the proprietor said not good enough and washed his hands of the matter leaving me little time to make space on the return truck. just another of the long chain of misfortunes following me on thisa trip. at least i will be here long enough for my hf to be repaired and freighted back now!
