A quick question to Colin "BBS GUY"
I've just received the small programmer & quartz for the Nanocom1 USB upgade
The thing which is a little strange
I downloaded the pdf file from Nanocom website and it states not to connect the Dc supply.
If you look at the Video online it shows that the DC supply is connected
SO which is the correct procedure ?
    Thanks in advance
    Vincenzo

You don't need to connect a power supply. Just hook up the programmer and you're good to go.

Does the 2.08 upgrade need the programmer to update it, or can you do it via the usb cable. If the programmer is needed, are bbs going to leave it this way, or fix the usb cable update probs.
Also apart from the key fob thing is everything else in the upgrade for the v8 and auto or td5 as well.

    Hiya Vincenzo
Although offtrack has kindly answered your question, i will look into the video to see if it needs re doing to eliminate any confusion.

    mrx7
Yes, you will need the programmer to update any Nanocom one to software versions starting from 1.06. This is because the problem introduced in 2.05 with the previous boot loader method has proved impossible to replicate and track down, so we have switched to a more direct and physical method.

The programmer is however not expensive as it is supplied at cost and the purchase cost actually includes world wide shipping as well.

Offtrack has already kindly listed what is included with V2.08. There are no changes to the TD5.

thanks bbs guy +a question for all

thanks for that bbs guy. 2 questions though. 1. any news what will be in 2.09 fix and is their anyway the nanocom1 can be upgraded to handle more than 1 model ie td5/v8 can the td4 in defender p38 or is the hardware to limited

has anyone out their seen the computer cases yopu can by that run off 8v-24v or 12v/24v. just wondering if building up a car pc with say a 7-9in touch-screen and install the nanocam 1 into a disco td. you could probably put mobile internet gps plus a lot more goodies in it .
    any thoughts

    Hiya Bluerazor
The video was done by Mattia before BBS's involvement, so it is out of date somewhat and needs re doing or removing. We are slowly sorting this kind of stuff out as we go.

I will pass on your regards next time we speak.

    mrx7 :
There is no news on 2.09 fixes, did you have something in mind ?

The Nanocom 1 hardware was only designed for communications with TD5 Defender and Disco II, and in respect of communication drive, is as crude a design as i have ever seen, but then it was built with economics in mind, is trouble free and works amazingly well, although bad earths etc are know to cause trouble.

That's one of the reasons why there was the need for the Nanocom Evolution, which by comparison, it's communication drive is the most over engineered design i have ever encountered. EG it self measures all communication channel voltages and sets up exact mid point threshold voltages to feed into logic comparators that output exact logical levels to the dedicated communication control processor. It even has feedback circuitry that can check its own outputs are working correctly

It also has all the CAN BUS support electronics for the Puma (TD4) Defender as well as the extra dedicated custom communication channels and control lines ready configured especially to communicate with all the ECU's on the P38, via the 7 pins on the OBDII connector it uses (not including Power and Ground).
