Nanocom Evo 1.04 Firmware Released

Hiya guys

Although i have not checked myself, i asked and was assured BBS 1.05 did contain the usual change log file.
Can you re check ?

In any event BBSV1.05 as far as i recall, simply contained some fixes for the P38 Coverage.

BBSV1.06 (due for release in the next few days) will contain further fixes, features and timing improvements specific to the P38 software as well as instrument mode apps with multiple pages for all the engine managements, which includes the Petrol V8 Motronic shared by the Discovery II.

The Kernel Manager will also contain a new option, which is significant in being the first improvement specifically wished for by members of this board on the wishlist thread

There is a change log there now, however I downloaded it on two occasions separated by a week, the last time just prior to asking the question, and neither archive had a change log.

Could I make a request that the change log include the changes made in previous versions in addition to the changes in the current version?

I did ask my guys if the 1.05 change log had been included from the start and was told "yes".

But it's not entirely unheard of for me to be fibbed to, especially if i seem to be in a grumpy mood ;)

Anyway, it is there now ;)

You can indeed make a request for anything you wish.
We are after all now at that wish fulfilling stage, which is a far cry from how it looked for all things nanocom related last Christmas. ;)
But that does not mean it will be granted, well "as is" anyway :D

It strikes me that having to download a large Zip file just to get to read the change log it also contains is not exactly the brightest idea. So i am going to provide a separate complete change log history file that will be updated with the latest version every time we produce a new release so folks can just download this and then decide if they want to download and install the latest version or not.

I hope this meets with your approval :)

BTW, we released the 7th software upgrade for the Nanocom Evolution we have produced in as many months today, V1.06 which will sort out your missing menu items along with all the other stuff.

1.07 is already being worked on and will include some additional SD card testing features as we have noted that not all cards are created equally and some really rubbish ones can even affect the internal Graphics handling.

Excellent news on the bug squashing and feature enhancements. Downloaded the 1.06 update last night but haven't had a chance to install as yet.

Have installed the 180º rotated screen and it's a welcome improvement

I was going to request that the instrument app be moved to the relevant vehicle section but you've beaten me to it. The instrument section is a vast improvement, but perhaps it would be better to maintain the TD5 and Motronic categories:

Well I just typed a reply and it disappeared into the ether.

Couple of questions for Colin which may be of general interest - others feel free to comment!

1 If I weren't regularly checking this site, then apart from doing the same at your site, how would I know when upgrades were available?

2 I am about to fit an EGT sensor. You may quite rightly tell me that it's an LR issue, but how could my evo 2 then read the sensor. I'm planning to fit a separate highlighted gauge anyway but can't see how the two would "connect".

I might find it's already in 1.06 which I have yet to download - only found out 30 minutes ago it was available, but if not, I'll add this to the wish list.

In instrument mode there is rpm on "page 1". I use my nanocom for in car readouts. I already have access to revs via my tacho for normal operation and it would be far more useful to be able to relocate an alternate display eg oil pressure or temp from engine or transmission. It may be too hard/too embedded, but I'll throw it in for consideration anyway.

Upgraded my Evo 1 and Evo 2 units to v1.06 tonight without any problems.

Am looking forward to playing with the instrumentation module in my P38. I wonder if the tyre coefficient setting allows me to adjust the speedo display on the Evo for my oversized tyres? Now that would be cool :cool:

I think I've said this before, but I'll say it again as I have just been using the two Evo models side-by-side - the accuracy and response of the touch screen on the Evo 2 is a huge improvement over the Evo 1.

The Evo (and any other diagnostic tool for that matter) will only read information reported by ECU's connected to the OBD/CAN bus. An add-on sensor and gauge doesn't integrate in to the existing electronics, so there is no way for a diagnostic tool can read the information.

Even if you were able to locate a module which would connect to the OBDII bus the Evo would need to have a specific module written to support the sensor, and you would not be able to display engine data at the same time as the EGT reading.

The EVO can only access and display information that is listed under the "Diagnostic Capabilities (Inputs)":

LUCAS TD5 DIAGNOSTIC (LAND ROVER) (SM010)

BOSCH AUTO BOX GS8.87.0 (SM030)

Neither the engine nor the auto ECU report oil pressure or temperature, so there is no way the Evo can display this information. There is an additional restriction in that one ECU can be accessed at any one time. This means you cannot display information from the TD5 ECU and Autobox module in the same instrument panel.

There are devices that do something similar to what you are asking, but because they use a generic OBDII protocol the information available from the TD5 ECU is very limited (according to the listing in EOBD-Facile):

- RPM
- Speed
- Calculated Load
- Absolute Throttle sensor position
- Fuel rail pressure relative to manifold (not sure this is an accurate description?)

Colin or Paul P38a might be able to be a more accurate in listing what exactly is available as a real-time PID, but as you can see there isn't very much useful information available.

So you could use something like this: PLX Devices Inc - USA
hooked up to these sensors: PLX Devices Inc - USA
but you'd only really get useful information from the sensor modules.

The only part you misunderstood/I didn't make clear was the question to Colin of whether there was any way of being advised of updates apart from checking the aulro AND nanocom sites - accepting that Colin does usually let this site know anyway.

I'm not aware of an alternative notification system. I'm tempted to have a go at creating a private news feed from the nanocom.it news page to save having to make regular visits. :angel:
